I am not sure I made "wise" choices in the process, but I am fairly happy where I ended up.
If I was in your shoes, I would get it for the .223 first. Good for HD, fun at the range, depending on barrel and such, does not hamper handling too much. There are a LOT of chocies and what you use your AR for may make this the perfect, or not a good, choice.
I tend to like supressed striker fired 9mms a lot more than suppressed .45 1911s.
Seems most here on the forum and talking to friends would recommend going rifle (AR).
For the AR, think through the attachement and potential suppressor interaction.
I got the Gem HALO because it is supposed to be bomb proof and it is relatively easy to take on and off, therefore it allows swapping between different ARs that have a suitable threaded device. The guys at Machine Gun Tours are but one local shop that can talk you through all of the nuances of the different options.
Careful with a .22 cal can. There are reports (I can't verify) that a .30 cal can works nearly as we'll on .223 as a dedicated .22 can. I bought a Thunderbeast 30P on the basis of being able to adequately suppress anything .308" diameter and under.
If you own or plan to own something with a bore larger than 0.224", consider a .30 cal can.
That's my logic. YMMV.
Good point Tim. Only thing you would need is an adapter for the .223 barrel. But for me, the 30P was too long for what I wanted the .223 can for, and I also wanted it attached all the time. I had the 30P and tried it before I got the .223 can.
My 30P gets used on 4 different rifles though.

I have a lot more opportunity to shoot pistol than rifle, so I started with a 9mm can. 22lr doesn't do much for me to begin with, and doesn't make that much of a difference for me when silenced. However, I shoot a lot of 9mm and it is relatively cheap.
the decision was an easy one for me. I rarely shoot anything larger than .22 centerfires, so I went with a .223 can and now have 4 barrels threaded for it. Two .204's, .223, and my .17 fireball.
I also liked the idea of a smaller/shorter and lighter suppressor when compared to the .30 cal. can. Also the reason I went with the Ti. model.
That's my reasoning as well, I went with a Specter II for my first one, main reason was you can get a .22 REAL quiet, and honestly my .22's get shot WAY more than anything else.Quote:
