The State Patrol and most of the other state level LEO agencies use Speer Gold Dot. I've worked a few officer involved shootings in the recent past and the ammo used varies by agency. There is no state mandate for a particular firearm, ammunition or any other tool utilized by law enforcement in this state.

Ignoring the debate aspect, I found useful the responses from current and former LEO as to what different agencies carry. This info doesn't seem to be widely available.
The instructor at the CCW class I took stated it's a good idea to carry what local LE carries, as this could negate the possibility of prosecution saying in court you used "special man-killer ammo" if you are involved in a self-defense shooting.
I've also seen the flip side to that coin. Sir is it true that you researched what ammunition is carried by local law enforcement agencies and carried that same ammunition for your personal protection? Don't you think that's unnecessary? Perhaps you were attempting to be like local law enforcement and engaging in situations that you shouldn't have, when in fact you should have just called the Police and let them handle the situation. Defense attorneys will say anything. There is no winning. Either way you will look like the bad guy.Quote:
