The NRA's idea of armed response in schools is so ridiculous because...

I'll bet there would be plenty of qualified and trained people that would gladly volunteer for this. Retirees that are qualified who love kids for example, there's got to be many, many, many people who would do this for free. They'd have to pass background checks(duh! obviously!) and qualify periodically for shooting skill levels. As someone said above, you just don't hear of these types of incidences in school where there are already armed personel(LEO) inside. If armed guards are present in the all government facilities in Washington D.C. why not in schools too! If they themselves are important enough to have that sort of security, and God knows how we "say" we would do ANYTHING to protect our children, then for God's sake why not let the kids have that same level of security. After all we "say" we do anything to protect them. If it's good enough for those fat cats in DC why not our children then!!!

I just want to see an end to the deprivation rights in these "magic zones" where Liberals think guns just flippin vanish from the hands of evil.

Well, these school shootings generally happen at predominantly white schools that have money. Logic follows that the schools where this has historically happened are both the most likely beneficiary of such a plan, and also the most likely to be able to afford this plan. It also follows that this would be declared racist since the rich white schools would be more likely to get this protection than the poor, less white schools.

I'm totally on board with the voluntary thing. just need to make it law to allow them to do so. my wife, mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law, and 2 uncles are all teachers.

Heard an interesting suggestion on the radio the other day : Train school staff that wanted to participate in handgun defense. Have the guns in a fingerprint access box in those rooms bolted to the floor. Have these boxes set for an alarm at local PD and FD to go off if accessed and make them aware of a shooting incident. DISCUSS

not bad. I think concealed carry would be good. Or they could have an emergency weapon in the main office. pretty much no kids get access to the office as it is, when they do they are with an adult.

So you're recommending that a tool, where its primary function is to eliminate something that threatens to kill our children, be placed in schools in a fashion that restricts its use to only emergencies?

Remove the gun free zone everywhere and place armed security. If teachers want to carry they are the next level of protection. First its the guard, second its the teacher, or together against the criminal.

Anti gun people dont care about statistics or facts. They are emotional in all their decisions.

The NRA has an excellent point about the fact that no one thinks anything about a guard who is armed at a bank, football stadium, mall, presidential/congress protections, or any where else, but the second it involves schools or kids its bad and unacceptable.
