Comparing this to Saddams capture and his sons death's there is a huge difference in the way they were handled.
Numerous photos were available on Hussein's capture and the deaths of his sons. This one? Minimal pics, no body etc.

it was smart not to disrespect his corpse, that would have just angered people. granted they'll be angry anyway, but when you crush your enemy the position of power allows you the leeway to act prudently.

edited to add: I"m glad he wasn't taken alive either. I don't think it ever would have happened, but on the outside chance it did, it would have just caused problems. ransom demands and a circus show trial. double tap was the way to go.

don't get me wrong, i am very happy that he is finally dead.

understand that we know he has been in this house since august at least. the town is home to many, many Paki, military and their families.

the bombing was not an option due to collateral damage that might include Paki, military. why is he being harbored in this town? there is no way the Paki military couldn't have handed him over.

I see a huge payoff to the Paki, gov't in order to get permission to go in and get him. I wonder how much military and foreign aide we had to cough up?

Every time i hear about this "head shot" the shot gets more incredible. a single shot to the head is now being reported as single shot through his eye. The seals are without a doubt an elite force. in the middle of what is being reported as a fire fight, with one helicopter going down, do you enter the building with unknown enemy count and pop one round at the threat in front of you or do you send a burst at that immediate threat?

was he snipered before the helos went in and they just picked up his body? was the one head shot made while he tried to surrender (not that i care)

I think there might be a case made that Osama pussed out in the face of the seals coming over wall in the helos and he shot himself once in the head.

either way i hope he burns in hell forever,

There were times in his speech where he referred to collective "we" or "Americans"... but that was just to try an draw people in to celebrate "his" victory

I don't think it really helps him all that much- if he "fixes" the economy, brings down unemployment, balances the budget, etc.. then he stands a chance- but then it's really those things that win the public over, IMHO.

ETA: if the GOP doesn't put forth a viable candidate, then all bets are off, and they could hand him a 2nd term....

I hope that he is truly dead, and for that I celebrate. And I hate to be a skeptic, but recently I guess I have become one. It just seems like perfect timing for Obama to have all this happen...just after the whole birth certificate ordeal...I guess I just want to see pictures. It seems strange we would shoot him dead in affluent suburb, take his body to a carrier, then dispose of his body at sea?

I say they invite his corpse as a guest on as many talk shows as possible! "How do you feel about (____) Mr. Bin Laden? .... Oh that's right, you're DEAD!"

+1 on the smelling fishy.

As far as the headshot goes, I can think of two plausible scenarios...
1. SEALs are standing around him yelling at him at gunpoint to stick his face in the dirt so they can throw some zip ties on him, he grabs an AK, SEALs shoot and one happens to be trained on his head.
2. They burst into the room, OBL stands up and takes aim with an AK, SEALs shoot bursts at him, one happens to hit him in the face and BOOM HEADSHOT.

As for DNA... I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they really could get his DNA confirmed that fast. The test itself (comparing two DNA samples using gel electrophoresis) is really fairly simple and pretty fast, takes about 10-15 min to setup everything and do it if you have everything on hand. The reason it takes FOREVER most places is they have to send it to a lab with one or two guys that know how to do it, who are sent dozens of DNA samples a day and have to just go through everything in the order it comes in.


Personally I can't wait to play it out on Call of Duty.
