The snow in NY is usually much more dense than out here. There were years (1992-1993ish) where we got FEET of snow dumped and plows simply couldn't move it. They dug out the last couple of V-plows they had and used backhoes/frontend loaders to remove snow. This was in Ulster County. There were years where my house got dug out with a backhoe, and others where I had to plow using a bulldozer.
One thing people might not realize about NYC is that there is nowhere for the snow to go. It basically needs to be scooped up, loaded in trucks, and dumped somewhere (or the ocean if they let them) to melt.
More "interesting" are the people down south, where they have no means of moving the snow. A college buddy of mine living in Virginia has over 18" to deal with.
Anyway, this sort of "news" is why I don't bother watching any of it.[panic]
