Memories:
1) Telling SPC Correa on a run that it's a good thing he was born here, cus if he had to cross the border with his running ability, he'd have never made it. Correa then proceeds to fall out from laughing so hard he couldn't breathe.
2) The Jamaican in the sniper section saying, "Any of you crackers want to come over this weekend to eat pulled pork and drink Red Stripe?" To which one of the redneck snipers replies, "only if your hot cousin is gonna be there." Someone else replies, "Speak English, jungle monkey. All I heard was ooga booga" Jamaican laughs and replies time to be there.
3) SSG who was so black he was almost purple, so his nickname was Blurple.
Contra:
The sniper section sergeant who would non-ironically listen to Skrewdriver cds and had SS runes tattooed surreptitiously on a cartoon character's sunglasses.

This banter is what I'm used to.
Heh, I'm a vet that just started school in Kansas. One week in I'm pleasantly surprised that I haven't see anything close to this. I'm also on a campus that only offers STEM degrees so ther is that.
As long as the tuition is getting paid, no one is kicking anyone out of a university. These are businesses and most of them have been enjoying pretty hefty profit margins.
Agree 100%
I enrolled in college just weeks after being released from active duty back in the 80s. Veteran status wasn't such a big deal. The professors seemed to appreciate more mature students in the classroom. Having a broader mix of people led to a better discussion. I went back to school in 2002 and what a difference. The professors' opinions were not to be questioned, discussions were more like consensus building, and the professors seemed intent on developing a following among the students.
