I also didn't really have a .22 worth shooting until very recently.
One year for Christmas my grandfather gave my brother a custom 7mm Mauser with a gorgeous handmade walnut stock; I got a brick of .22. Come summer, my grandfather was pissed to find out that I'd already shot up all of the ammo he gave me. I never understood why or how he thought that ammo should have lasted me very long since I liked to shoot a LOT. My brother ended up selling that rifle about 5 years later for $70 when he was in financial straits. The bastard didn't even consider offering to sell it to me - and I would have given him $500 for it (it was worth close to $1k at the time) with the option to buy it back when he got in better financial shape.
If I still had any firearms, even a .22LR, I'd consider 5k to be my "discretionary minimum limit" for .22 ammo.
400 rounds? Chump change.
When I was a kid me and pips had access to a friends large plot filled with ground squirels. Our record was 7000 rounds in a 4 day weekend. I may or may not have shot most of it. Normal weekends when we were there was 5 bricks or so.
400 rounds is a warm up.
I wonder what the liberal media would think about 4-H programs all over the country buying pallets of CCI standard velocity
