Fireworks question: Why??

Why should the sale of something that is under a temporary, conditions based ban, be banned?

That's like saying because you can't go shooting inside of city limits that ammo should not be sold there either.

It's absolutely scary that so many want to see a business shut down because the main item they sell can't be used right now. Undoubtedly there will be idiots out there that use them without proper thought involved (ie using them during the ban), but does that justify the banning of the item from sale? How about taking care of the problem, nail the assholes to the wall when they don't heed the warnings. Make the penalty stiff enough that most people will think twice about it before they use them irresponsibly. Does the criminal acts of gangs, murderers, rapists, and the like justify the ban of selling ammo and guns? No, so why should the actions of a few idiots regulate the sale of any other item?

Most cities and townships have permanent ordinances banning fireworks yet do very little to enforce said ordinances until someone's house or apartment building burns down from fireworks.
The fireworks stands usually set up on little patches of unincorporated lands scattered throughout out the Metro area to skirt these laws.
That business on north Federal that sells fireworks year round is just north of the C&C of Denver limits in unincorporated Adams county.
Most folks drive north to Wyoming to get the good stuff.
What is needed is stricter enforcement of all the fireworks laws to drive the message home to the idiots that think fireworks are a right they are entitled to.
Every 4th of July I am out watering down the roof of my house because I can hear the remains of these idiots fireworks hitting my roof.

Do they have to get permits to open the fireworks stands? If so the city would have to revoke those permits and I would imagine refund the cost of the permits.

I am not condoming banning of fireworks, they are already ILLEGAL in most all of the metro area cities. And in the arid climate of the area it makes sense.
Go ahead and shoot off all the bottle rockets and whatever you want, but make sure all the debris falls on your home and not mine or your neighbors so when your house burns down, then maybe you will understand why fireworks are illegal.

Until fireworks offenses command the same kind of fines that DUI's do you will never see heavy enforcement of the fireworks laws due to the majority of LEO resources on the 4th being dedicated to DUI enforcement.


Unless you have a wood shake roof I'm not sure why your house would catch on fire from a stray bottle rocket or even a low break mortar. I'm no fire science major but I believe a stray ember is not capable of lighting an asphalt roof on fire. If you do have a wood shake roof and people nearby are shooting fireworks into the air I would recommend calling the cops every 5 minutes until they show up.
