Agreed, with the exception that many charities are not that efficient, with maybe 10% of the amounts given actually used for its intended purpose. Shriners for example give 100% of thier collections to their charities and are awesome.

I think I'm going to start applying for help from the gubment.. prices keep going up and my pay isn't keeping up with it.. I needs help! [ROFL1]
I can imagine how many guns I would have if I didn't have to spend that $$ on groceries lol.. I don't want an escalade on 22's.. I have another wish list.
You want to see a perfect example of this? Spend just 3 minutes browsing Kickstarter.com... Holy cow, when people have something their passionate about (not just helping needy) they can really raise a ton of money! I can't agree more with this- we are so charitable, look at the contributions the Romneys have made over the years, or look at Bill Gates, he donates TONS of money.
A past job had me interacting with the homeless around Park and Larimer (where the biggest shelters are) on a daily basis.
Not only did nearly every homeless person have a better quality cellphone than me (they all had touch screen smart phones with internet and audio and apps), but many of them had the latest laptops as well. A few of the shelter residents drove far nicer cars than mine as well.
Half of the homeless/transients I met had active and valid EBT cards from at least one other state. Many had multiple cards. One evening I was in a grocery store near there and a couple of black guys came up to the register with a shopping cart loaded with frozen shrimp and the best cuts of steak. They rung up over $200 on an out of state EBT card. Then one of the guys looks at his receipt and says, "There's still money left on this card, go grab two more bags of shrimp."
Actually there is a interview with her on you tube. In it she states that she made the vidio because her childhood was shit and she believes her mother only had her to collect $. She also states once she went back to school and got a BA she never had to rely on the goverment for $ again.
There are occasionally charities that are inefficient, but in general if a charity only gives 10% of what it collects to its intended purpose those charities often fail (with the management sometimes ending up in jail). A government program where only 10% of the monies collected ending up used for its stated purpose is often considered a rousing success.
I'd rather rely on charities though, because if you find out that Charity X wastes too much money you can stop giving. Can't stop "giving" to Government unless you like prison sex.
