Good match Cy, only suggestion would be to stretch out on those longer bays. Hate to see only 1/2 of the 100 and 200 yd bays used. I enjoyed the match and the speed was fun just like to see some harder rifle targets mixed in.

Thank you for your kind words and for all the great help setting up and tearing down the stages!! You all made the match really fun.
I agree with stretching the distance to targets. The only reason why I kept yesterday's steel a bit closer was to make the resetting of the stage easier.
The other thing that I believe would be fun is using smaller targets.
BTW, suggestions are always welcome. After all this is a match for all the participants and it is you, the shooter, who tells the BOD what it is you like to see more of.

Hi Cy, I was wondering if you heard anything about next weekend. Will the match take place as usual?
Scheduled for October 7, so hopefully it will dry out by then. If dry, we will have it.
Got my fingers crossed, hoping for cooperative weather!
So, are we on? Might be able to make it.
Not sure yet. The ground is still muddy based on current intel. If we don't get some sun, or if it rains...:(
Ground is dry, we are a go.
I have 5 stages if we have enough people to build, otherwise going with 4. Round count is going to be about 150 rounds. Open, Limited, Tactical, PCC.
Set up at 7:30, hope to be shooting by 9am.
CANCELLED! Huge T-Storm came up, with hail. Worried it won't dry out tonight with the cool and cloud cover. Driving on the bays when wet it absolutely prohibited. Sorry.
Sorry gang, we tried but that late afternoon thunderstorm forced us to cancel the event.
Fingers crossed in hopes of pleasant weather next month!!

Are you planning for a match on Saturday?
I was just about to ask the same question.
Sorry gang but I do not know the status of Saturday's Carbine Match. My assumption is that, since the weather looks like is going to be nice this weekend, Mark is going to go ahead with it but, in all fairness, we'll have to wait for a match call email to be sure.

Since this is a fairly new type of shooting match in the Rocky Mountain region, it is still evolving though, in general the Carbine Match (officially named"USPSA Rifle") is an action-shooting event based on USPSA courses of fire where we engage targets (cardboard and steel) at distances ranging from 5 to 200 yards. Most participants shoot AR-style semi-automatic rifles either with optics (red-dots or scopes) or with open sights. It's a very fun and also challenging event.
Until a few months ago I, as well as others, was helping run this event but had to step down from my position as score keeper due to lack of time on my part. The person currently in charge Mark P. is in the process of assembling a new group of people to continue running this event. I am certain that he and the group of folks he chooses will continue to make this event a very fun one.
I don't doubt that Mark will post on this thread soon to let us know more about the planned change that we may be seeing in the 2018 shooting season. I think that he is better suited to answer any questions about this event that you may have.

Please do update this post if you would as I have not been successful in getting the mailing list to work for me. Weather looks good!
I can not run the match on Saturday due to other obligations. We need some folks who enjoy this match to step up and volunteer to help run it.
It is more than just putting some targets out. CRC has several requirements for match staff including safety issues, management of the sign-up scoring, etc. None of it is hard, but it takes several people to set-up and run matches.
Cy runs several other matches at CRC and elsewhere, as do I and most of the other folks that run matches. This is why folks get burned out.
So, no match on Saturday, right?
For those of you who enjoy this match, time to step up. :)
Cy already runs too many matches and he stepped into the breech so to speak to help out the last few of these. Brad is out and I don't have the time to do them either. If I can get a few folks to commit to helping set-up.score, tear down on a regular basis, I will add this to the calendar for 2018. I am sure Cy will come to some and I will try to be at as many as I can. I can also help with stages even if I can't make the match.
Just need some folks to raise their hands.
Matt Hess has stepped up to be the MD for the CRC USPSA/Carbine match. Still first Saturday of the month, starting in March with September being the last for 2018. Matt will, of course, need help administering the matches. He has been the MD for several clubs and is very experienced in running matches.
That is GREAT news! Thank you Matt!!
Any chance of this coming Saturday, the 6th? :-)
Really good to hear. Really had fun last year on the couple of matches we could make.
Carbine Shooters,
This is Matthew Hess. If you've shot USPSA at Aurora, you've likely met me and shot on some of my stages.
Do you have a carbine, SBR, or bullpup languishing in your safe? If you're looking for a venue to exercise your carbine, I invite you to come to the CRC match.
My goal is to put on a match that's enjoyable for anyone with a semi-auto carbine mentioned above. “Can I shoot my JP race rifle?” Yes and you will likely do well, but you might find the stages are not up to the challenge the rifle was built to address. If this style of match interests you, the first match is scheduled for March 3rd.
But I can't put this match on alone. I need folks that can develop and build stages.
Schedule – Currently first Saturday of month, March through September. See crci.org, Event Schedule, USPSA Rifle.
Rules & rifle divisions – essentially the same as last year but will publish details before first match.
Match format – mostly run-and-gun field courses. We'll be using the east pistol berms 7-13, including the 200yd range.
If you're willing to help with match, PM me here.
Matthew
Super pumped for trying this out in March! What kind of optics do you recommend using? Red dot/holographic or a 1-4x/6x/8x, fixed power prism, etc?
Red dot or a 1-4 will be fine. Targets only go out to 200, and those are usually 10" flashers. You could technically shoot the match with a Red dot on a 9mm PCC.
Even if you don't have a carbine, feel free to hit me up and if you buy factory ammo, I have several I can loan out for the match.
That's really cool of you, especially for those who are on the edge about joining the sport! I am building an AR right now (aka I have a lower and that's it haha) and figure now is a good time to build it so I can participate. Just want to build it right and not have to sell and rebuy parts!
What time are the matches usually over? I'd like to participate but have to work at 4pm on saturdays.
I'd say as long as you get there early to help set-up, even if you have to leave early, just let Matt know and it is not a problem at all. But, usually, the matches have been over about 3 to 4 pm. I can only assume Matt is going to be a little more efficient and the matches will be over around 2 or so.
The folks who show up 5 minutes before the shooters brief and then leave before their squad is done is what we really don't want to have happen.
Will we be using the the same sign up system like last time?
Yes as it makes things much easier on match day.
We are looking at the weather for any last minute snow but, so far things are looking good for a match on Saturday.
The official match call email will go out on Thursday and, along with it, the link to sign up for the match online using Practiscore.

I'm not sure I can come on Saturday, but I'd like to try this match out. How do I get on the mailing list?
How much ammo do you recommend bringing? And my suppressor was just released from jail, are we allowed to run those at matches?
Edit: I saw the recommendations on the first page, just curious if those were still accurate.
The ammunition quantity is still correct. As far as suppressors go: in the past, we have allowed the use of suppressors as long as we have not had issues with the timers picking up the shot. For the most part, this has never been a problem with rifles shooting 5.56mm but it may be problematic if the competitor is shooting subsonic 300AAC or 9mm ammunition. Ultimately, the decision is up to the Match Director (Matt H.). Saturday's is going to be his first time as MD for this event. As you can imagine, he has his hands full with running this match while making it both safe and fun.
I will take a stab at it and tell you to bring the suppressor with you but please don't be dissapointed if Matt makes the decision to say "no-go" to suppressors. Like I said before, the ultimate authority on equipment restrictions resides with him.
I look forward to seeing you at the range on Saturday!!
Cy
Thanks Cy! One more question, how many mags do you recommend bringing? I just finished my AR yesterday after not having one for a few years and want to make sure I bring all the right gear. I've been doing a few pistol competitions lately but this will be my first rifle comp.
