I just had a talk about this with my father-in-law. He's the guy who still doesn't have a cell phone of any kind. He mentioned that smart phones are great for getting things like directions somewhere, allowing you to find alternate routes if there is traffic (he's from LA). But by having the ability to do things like facebook and that other crap, you get way too attached to it. I make a point to not have games or facebook on my phone for that very reason.
Side note: twitter is the absolute worst of all these though. It brings this mindset of "Everyone needs to know what I'm thinking right this second" how many times have you seen athletes or celebrities come out and have to apologize for something stupid they said in the heat of the moment?
