I would be more sanguine if I encountered more young people who seemed willing and interested in learning. I knew about the three branches of government including the bicameral legislature, why the Founding Fathers fought the Revolutionary War, specifics of their grievances, how the Constitution was structured, etc. by fifth grade. I constantly run into high school juniors and seniors and college kids who haven't got the foggiest clue about any of that, aren't embarrassed by their ignorance, and have no intention of correcting their ignorance but are intent on "making government work for the people".
