I just did one for my new Varmint rifle. Used one of those cheap knives from Lowes that you can snap sections off the blade. Used the whole length of the snap off blade and it cut easy. Also look at Storm cases,that's what I bought. A little cheaper and a life time warranty(not on the foam :).

by the way don't worry too much about messing it up, you can buy 3 new pieces for 60 or one for 20 on ebay.
