C) Yes, you're right, cops cannot be expected to know the conditions of the people they encounter, and in case where the cop or other people are in danger, of course, go ahead and use the taser, but this kid was just being an idiot. who was he going to hurt even if he ran around for another 10 minutes? He was taking away playing time, thus my money, etc... although I may say the enjoyment factor was increased!! [ROFL1]
He was being stupid. Not dangerous. And in my opinion, that does not warrant the use of less-lethal force. That's your opinion my friend and I respect that. More power to you. I will disagree. The kid was being stupid, and he got a stupid prize. Should we let the players deal with it using a baseball bat instead? As far as dangerous: in todays world, no one in teh moment knew that. The LEO are breifed in scenarios of idiots running onto the feild with a gun to take out 3rd baseman Bob who signed a million dollar contract with George because Larry didn't like the car he drove... yadda, yadda....
I think that we need to make some examples of people sometimes to get the message across that we will not put up with it.
I am in a classroom with myself, one other teacher, and 70-80 kids. If they start fighting, do I say, "Now Johnny, was that very nice? That's no way to treat your peers... Why don't we all get along. Give him a hug and let's sing Kum-bi-ya!" No, I kick the ass out of my classroom and make an example of him. Disobedience breeds anarchy. There must be a set criteria. Baseball players on the field. Audience in the stands. If they want to interact, audience can go wait by the busses.
We've delt with crazed sports fans for PLENTY of years without using tasers. I run into this statement a lot. Tazers have been around since 1974. What did people do before that? They used tear gas, billy clubs, etc to remove unwanted peoples from public places (fans rushing a feild). I know once at my undergrad after a great win they opened the sprinkler system (which didn't do a damn thing except ruin teh field!) Tazers have a purpose and I think it was used aduequatly here.
