Bought a Savage mkII on my 18th, and a Taurus 1911 on my 21st. Still have the taurus.
As a combination 18th birthday gift and a "thank you" for (spending the summer after I graduated HS alone 100 miles from friends & family - with no transportation besides an old Schwinn - to watch my deceased grandparents home/property), my dad bought me a used Mini-14. This was in 1983, before the "Ranch Rifle" model came out do it had a nice tacit cool look to it.
I still had that rifle until my tragic boating accident a few years ago which is the only way I think I'd ever part with it.
To answer the OP's question though, no, I didn't BUY any firearms for either occasion.
Come to think of it, aside from the accident, I've only ever gotten rid of 1 gun, an old Remington Nylon 66 .22LR with a stripped out rear sight post screw. I couldn't ever hit was I was aiming at with that thing.
The Nylon 66 was my first gun I ever owned, the Mini was my second.
1973 in Ohio , glennfield arms 12 gauge pump, still have it still shoots great still looks pretty damn good, I was 13 and bought at Kmart !!
Savage 111 and a CZ 75bd.
At 21 I purchased a sub compact xd in 9mm. Wish I still had it but like everyon on here I wanted something different, newer, more accurate, and more expensive so I sold it.
Didn't buy or get any guns on those birthdays. Got all the guns I thought I would ever need by the time I was sixteen.
