I did. Just haven't had time to call.
Ah. So what do you mean by you "want to be loaded?"
Know where the bull is and not in what their telling me.
The guys that I told you about in the PM... Miller and Emberly mainly... won't give you any BS. Like I said, it makes no difference to them whether you join or not, they see themselves as a way for you to enter the military if you so desire, not as a salesman trying to "sell" enlistment to you like most seem to. Best thing you can do is go with somebody that's been there done that, active or ex military. I'd go with ya if you were closer (or if you came down here)... I'm no expert but I've been hanging around the stations since middle school and have learned what's BS and what's not.
I just went full-on CQB and cleared my entire house room to room with a tac light strobe and .357.... turned out to be the A/C making funny noises, now I feel kind silly.
I've done that a bunch of times.LOL. I have another issue maybe you can help clear up for me. I have a genetic thing with my blood. I'm on blood thinners. It's not covered in the no-go category of AR 40-501
Chapter 2
Physical Standards for Enlistment, Appointment, and Induction
Should I tell the recruiters about it or leave it alone? It's kinda my choice to even be on the meds anyway.
Lol yeah I do it on a regular basis but usually its only when my dog tells me something's up, and then its usually a coyote outside... this time its just me being paranoid.
Hmm.... well with Emberley, its best to just tell him everything up front and he'll tell you what you shouldn't reveal at MEPS, not sure about the others though. I'd say that if you can survive fine without the meds, there's no need to bring it up.
Being in the military is easy... its getting in that's difficult. Once you're in you can get back on the meds, so if you can survive training without your meds with no issues I think that'd be the best way to go.
That's what I figured. They wont' let you take over the counters at basic will they?
Gotcha I'm guessing AIT is less strict and reg army is where I can get back on. Are you in right now?
It depends on your AIT, but yeah AIT is generally much more relaxed than basic. Even the really strict ones are relaxed compared to basic. Once you get to the regular Army its a cakewalk.
I'm still waiting to ship, leave in November. I'm the only one of my friends that isn't already through and deployed... most of what I know is from their experiences.
What's your MOS?
My contract is 11X, OPT 4/40... Infantry with Airborne and Ranger school.
Rangers is actually my secondary/fallback... I'm hoping to get pulled by SF after OSUT. Gonna be tough but my buddy was just through and was pulled by 10th Group, so I know what it takes and what they look for and can prepare for it before hand. But if they don't, well Rangers wouldn't be all that bad and after RASP I'll have another shot at SF.
What MOS are you looking at?
Either 11B or 19D. I know Cav scout is a POG job but it looks pretty kick ass to me. You PTing like crazy? I'm doing crossfit twice a damn day.
I suppose I'd better get back to work[LOL]. Talk to ya'll later.
11B's gonna be tough to get, there aren't many (or any, last I checked) 11X slots in the system. Only chance of getting one is if, when you sit down with the career counselor (guy that actually gives you your contract at MEPS) and you guys get on his computer, one happens to pop up (somebody loses their 11X contract, like if they break a foot and can't ship). Its not impossible, hell two 11Xs popped up when I was there (one was snagged literally within seconds and I grabbed the other one), but its not something you can count on 100% and because there aren't any slots open your recruiter won't be able to reserve one for you in the system, which just means you have to reserve a different MOS at the recruiting station and then when you get to that part of MEPS just tell the counselor what you want. Don't really know anything about 19D, never looked into it, but it was on the "I'll look at it if I can't get choice A, B, or C" list (which I got very close to... was signing the paperwork for choice C when that 11X popped up), looks like a fun MOS.
And yeah with no school or job, just waiting to ship, my main purpose in life right now is PT lol. Been doing a lot of ruck marching lately at the recommendation of my buddy that just went through RASP and was pulled by 10th Group. Other than the marches I've been doing a pretty intense workout that an ex Airborne/Ranger/SF guy gave me and just random routines mixed in on random days to spice it up. Check out the Fitness/Combatives section on the Warrior Talk forum for workout ideas.
And yeah I just realized what time it is.... [facepalm] I need to get some sleep!
Talk to ya later [Beer]
what's up night crew!
Sorry I'm late [Tooth]
What's up?
Soooo my jaw isn't crooked as far as I can tell and I can still talk fine, but I can't close my jaw enough to chew food (and I'm hungry as hell, so this is an urgent issue). Feels like it used to when it got dislocated in MMA fights, but it doesn't look or feel out of place.
Any ideas?
you could have a muscle cold. My doctor said that when you can't turn your neck or your jaw feels off kilter your muscles can actually be having a type of cold where muscle power is greatly reduced.
So it seems two 11X are open I checked with my recruiter today.
Can a muscle cold be induced by pulling a Tuff Hedeman? lol
Snag one of those 11Xs ASAP. What recruiter did you talk to?
One in Greeley alright guy. Doubt they'll still be there next week when I can go to MEPS. Hopefully will or a cav scout.
They didn't let you reserve a slot?
I just did the intro crap today they were taking a group down and said come back Monday with the packet filled out.
Ah ok. Got any questions about MEPS? Been through there.....I think 5 times now.
Not really i've got the gist of it down. I think I can rock out the ASVAB I did pretty well on the little pre test. Medical should be fine as well.
Do they try to drum people out? I've heard they do their best to disqualify people.
Yeah the ASVAB isn't tough at all. Only part that threw me off was the Abstract Objects portion, not really difficult but definitely makes you think. That and the word recognition test after the ASVAB is a major bitch... flash a string of letters for .5 sec, pick string of letters out of multiple choice within 1 sec before it disappears, string of letters flash for .001 sec, pick correct answer within .X sec... you'll do well if you get even 50% right. I've got a very visual memory and I'm good at crap like that and I don't think I did very well on it... they don't show you the score afterwards. There are ones that disappear before you can even move the mouse to select your answer, its dumb.
All I can think about is that steak in the fridge begging me to devour it..... and all I can manage to down is these nasty ass spaghetti-o's.
Just discovered I can't yawn either [Bang]
Hey got a spam can of 5.45x39 today. Impossible to get open any suggestions?
Well there's a tool for it, but lacking one of those I've used a knife/screwdriver and a hammer/heavy object. Puncture the edge and then once the tip of the knife or screwdriver is in use the hammer to hit it sideways along the edge all the way around.
Well my tools are in storage and I broke my piece of shit Gerber multi-tool already[Rant1]. At least that round is awesomely cheap!
I hate Gerber products with a passion. Formerly well made products turned into crap by a company riding on their reputation... much like Bushmaster.
Check out SOG multitools.... only multitools I'll carry anymore.
SOGs are good, but I prefer leatherman tools.
I've heard Leatherman makes a good product but I never liked the ergonomics and such of em. One of the main things I like about SOG is the easy one-handed opening.
SOG knives are the shit. I carry a cold steel but I also like my SOG. Yeah Gerber used to kick ass but just like bushmaster, springfield, and many other companies they had a great name and cheapened everything they could.
Those cold steel, last time I checked 'em they felt pretty cheap...
