It was a long time ago...I worked on it in 1979 when I was turning wrenches for a living, but I think it was the 240

Having owned several of both I can say with the utmost certainty that there is no comparison. They share frames and general items but the difference is night and day in fit & finish. You most definitely get what you pay for in the Audi line. Not that VW makes a bad car it's just that Audi is better. Kind of like Lexus v Toyota. Toyota doesn't suck but anyone who says that Lexus is an overpriced Toyota probably owns a Toyota and secretly wanted a Lexus. lol
How can you tell someone owns a BMW? Don't worry, he'll tell you. lol
20v turbo?
How did it blow?
at least it's not my truck...speaking of which...
Not entirely certain. It came to me with the lower water temp sensor pushed out and a no start complaint. I filled it with water and it poorer out of the lower hose where the temp sensor is. And dribbled from the thermostat. Pulled plugs and found crud on number four plug. Stuck a bore scope in and found debre. The valves wouldn't move when the engine was turned over by hand. The valves moved in the other cylinders.
Theory one: thermostat leaked a little and sucked in an air pocket. Overheated head at #4 cylinder. Pressurized cooling system and pushed water temp sensor . Dead engine. But doesn't really explain the metal to metal connection in #4. Piston is dead.
Theory two: jumped tooth, metal to metal, blown head gasket, pressurized cooling system. I suppose I should check timing. Maybe later. Too busy right now since it really doesn't matter it is dead no matter what.
I like two better for now. But need to look at timing to be certain.
Jumping a single tooth on that motor would cause it to run like ass but not make physical contact. Besides, if it did it wouldn't clear out one cylinder & seize locally. It would crash most all your valves into pistons & mangle them all real good. I'd need to see it myself to get a better guess but I wouldn't think it would be #2. Even if it had a balance shaft/belt that went it would pretty much give the same result I just described.
