With today's events in Ukraine it doesn't take a penetrating analysis to see that sanctions will be expanded. As Rahm Emanuel famously said, never let a crisis go to waste.
If not internationally, lets do it locally.

I don't really have a problem with sanctions if they are targeted to be effective. I'm not sure these are; it seems to me undercutting the Russian energy industry would be far more effective at cutting off the funds Putin uses for his adventurism and in making the Russian elite hurt economically. Somehow the effete elitists in American politics never seem to want to place sanctions on Stolichnaya or Russian caviar or the other things they value or enjoy.
