If I remember right, you can plant lemon grass around your house, camp site, whatever. from what I recall spiders, ticks, and mosquitoes all hate it - but it has a small effective area.

There's actually a... ummm... fungus/spore/bacteria/something that comes in a white powder that you spread around and it eats the larvae. But if you're on a small 1/4 acre lot, won't do you any good, because they'll come in from your neighbor's properties. They need to spray that stuff out of an airplane over hundreds of acres to really make a difference.
