Dammit...all this talk about trucks got me to snoopin' around. I found a new 2014 2500HD Duramax Crew Cab Long Bed for under $44k! Under $44k! That's unheard of. And I like my 2012 6.0L just fine. Damn end-of-year incentives may cost me a bundle. I have no willpower when it comes to trucks.
In most instanced the protrusion is to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase fuel economy at highway speeds. It's easier to accomplish this with a clear lens than it is with a painted fender or piece of plastic w/o it looking odd. Lots of manufacturers do this these days.Quote:

Tacomas have not been known for changing their designs much because most of the time they just work. My old Taco with the 3.4L was awesome. They have always seemed to battle head gasket problems with their 3.0L V6 in the early trucks and in their first gen 4.0L. Those 4.0L head gaskets are nasty too, 20+ hours labor.

I guess it depends on what your idea of more comfortable is. I owned a Silverado and it didn't ride as good as my Tacoma or the other Tacomas I've been in. We drove my buddies Tacoma from Washington D.C. to Fort Collins straight through only stopping to eat, use the bathrooms and one 15min nap and it was as comfortable as I would expect to be on such a trip. Personally, I prefer my trucks to feel more like trucks and less like cars. I don't buy my truck for ultra plush road trip comfort nor do I buy it for Pruis-like fuel economy. If I can get decent in both of those categories while getting ultra reliable w/top-of-class off-road capability all while providing the best resale available.... I'm good. I don't expect it to ride like a Caddy nor would I want that. Somewhere around 20mpg works just fine for my needs. I haven't had any troubles with my engine (only 40k miles so I wouldn't expect to either) but a few things are a PITA when working on them for sure. I had to pull my supercharger to do a plug change but that's not something everyone goes through and I knew what I was getting into when I bought it so no big deal. Common things are a breeze though. Oil changes take me about 10min total and I don't need any tools to do it either. The Silverado had it's own PITA things to work on though & this goes for every vehicle I've ever owned so it's tough to fault any one of them as each one has something that's a nightmare.

Comparing a Silverado to a Tacoma is not apples to apples. I imagine my idea of being comfortable is pretty similar to yours, but I could be wrong. A scooter cross country would be as comfortable as you would expect it to be too. I enjoy having a full size truck and having nice ride quality too; I must be weird. You are right, Tacomas do ride "like a truck" just like my 3/4 Dodge Cummins rode like a 3/4 ton. In your words, if I can get a good compromise I'll be happy. My dad recently purchased a 2014 Tacoma Quad Cab and said the same exact thing you did. The Tacoma rides likes a truck and his old truck (my truck now) rides like a caddy. I don't own any horse trailers either, doesn't mean I shouldn't buy a truck. I didn't buy my Cummins for towing but having a 600hp+ daily driver was a lot of fun.Quote:

Both my parents are happy owners of new Toyota's. Mom got a 2014 4Runner and Dad got a 2014 Tacoma four door. Both fully loaded TRD off road packages. Toyota's make nice vehicles in my opinion and they do have excellent resale value. My Dad searched for a used one but after seeing how much they cost used, he opted to buy new. With only a $5k-$7k difference between a used and new one, it was a no brainer. Warranty a lot of times pays for itself on a new vehicle. Maybe when dad is ready for another new truck I'll buy his Tacoma from him. Nothing against you or Toyota's, just stating my opinion since we are all entitled to one.

How is it hard to understand the benefits of the diesel? On average a tank of diesel will be about 6-7 bucks more than a tank full of petrol for the frontier, and the Cummins improves mpg's by about 35%. 30mpg, 350 lb-ft tq; I can see the taco bias, man, but c'mon. Most of us already know how tuner friendly diesels can be about more power and fuel economy.Quote:
