divorces and bipolarism

5 friends are going through divorces , all because the significant other has a form of bipolarism 4men, 1 woman, or other medication requirements to make them "normal"...WTF is going on? Is it in the water? Are the libs putting something in there? I just can't figure this out...Problem is, it effects my kids, because my kids jam with their kids.

I watched at the pool today, guy made his wife do everything...he sat on the lawn chair and didn't do jack shizzle. Girls chatted, my wife came back and said number 5 is going to be served the D papers this week.

Worst thing about it, i'm sitting here, and my wife is watching bridezilla! Time to start drinking...

If they get on the right meds and stay on them they can be tolerable. God help you when they quit the meds.

The urge by the medical profession to write scripts for any narcotic is overwhelming. A few movies in the late 70's early 80's spoofed the culture of pharmaceuticals. In one of them one guy was always reaching in to his pocket and saying, "Here eat a Lude"

If more folks would actually dialogue vs accepting a prescription Perhaps the Bipolar issue might be discovered to be something else. Think how many kids were "diagnosed" as ADD when in reality they were just hyper or Bored because their learning curve was 2 grades ahead of the class.
Yep drug em up and watch them implode 2-4- 10 years later = Holmes, Lautner etc.

I think many people are generally unhappy, and don't change their environment, and eventually it royally fucks them up. If you don't like your surroundings, change them, otherwise you will be miserable until something breaks.

While I don't disagree on people being prescribed meds when they don't need them. Try living with someone truly bipolar. On meds you have a mother who volunteers at the kids school, school functions, cooks and cleans and what not. Off meds you get suicidal, drinking binges, mentally and physically abusive. it truly is horrible.

ex-wife numbah 2! luckily we didn't have any children, but she was batshit when she was off meds.

A lot of people seem think a diagnosis for "bi-polar" is an excuse to act horrible whenever they feel like it and neglect their responsibilities. If you're stuck in a relationship with someone like that it can be a real horrorshow. First thing that needs to be done is to cut them off from access to the bank accounts used for bills and savings, because they'll think nothing of blowing it all on crap for themselves. Second thing is to give them a short list of very simple, basic, common sense rules any decent person should already know how to follow, and let them know those are instant dealbreakers. Third thing is to seriously consider your options . . . and divorce is actually one of the best options if the other person refuses to control their behavior. I've dealt with mentally ill people many times, and usually they know when they're crossing a line and doing something wrong, but they figure they'll just do it anyway and blame their "disease" so they won't be held responsible for their actions. Someone like that, you can't count on them and you can never completely trust them.

We have become a society of big business is people avoiding personal responsibility and being 'broken' to the point we will take a pill "in certain cases, Sudden death may occur..."

"Crap, Doc, is this rash infectious?", "Will it kill me?", "Is it going away on its own?"
I'm sure as heck NOT taking a pill that may cause hives, sleepiness, sleeplessness, nervousness, Suicidal thoughts, vomiting, headaches, ANOTHER rash, hives, shakes, jitters, diabetes, heart damage, kidney damage, live damage, amnesia, blindness, discolored urine, swelling, 'sudden and uncontrollable bowel movements', compulsive behavior, rectal leakage, urinary leakage, rectal bleeding, or birth defects...

all for a rash that is going to clear up in a few weeks because the wife changed fabric softeners.

You tell a doc the side effects don't offset the Up side of the med and they look at you with this weird HUH? THEN say. WELL those effects are a worse case scenario.

I told the nurse staff when they asked "How you feeling after your surgery"
Replied ,you know i'm kind of wired . 2 hrs later same ?? Now i say you know i'm having mild hallucinations , No reply. 6 hrs later same back n forth
36 hrs later They actually realized me being up for the last 36 and staring in to space at unknown objects and overall weirdness was in fact a reality THEN THEY TOOK ACTION. 36 HOURS[Bang]

Look some folks cannot function w/out a regimentation of pharma's and they truly need them to deal with the simple things in life on a daily basis. No argument

HOWEVER some folks, well...............they game the system

The other group.........They will never be able to exist with someone as the simple thought of Dialogue and Therapy is foreign, something they would never give in to because They don't need someone else telling them how to live their life!

Nothing has changed.. in the 50s-60s it was alcohol for the stay at home mom, then through the 70s and 80s it was Valium.. 90s-00s? What's the new drug? Life is getting more hectic, I read an article in Wired recently that said that we process more information in a year at work now than we did in an entire lifespan just 20 years ago. The ladies around the pool are probably all playing the game of staying ahead of the Joneses rather than being happy with themselves. After watching a few hours of reality TV you can surmise that life in general is pretty boring for a lot of people thus they get into other peoples gossip and business and they start watching "reality" TV to make up for it.

The "person" you're describing here sounds like a mis-diagnosed, plain old narcissist. Try your solutions with someone who is actually bi-polar, un-medicated and refuses to see any fault in themselves.

My guess is that most people that talk about mental disease have no fucking idea what it is really like.

although there are obviously people that are bipolar, and add, and all of that, the over diagnosis of these ailments is insane. i know someone who is just mean. period. rude, verbally abusive. prideful. and of course she just got diagnosed bipolar. i work in health care and know bipolar, and shes not bipolar. same with kids with add. kids never had a problem 40-50 years ago, now all of the sudden every other kid is add and needs meds? they probably need a firm hand and maybe a belt. society wants to label everything, understand everything and get the quick fix for everything. so we diagnose anyhting and everything and give them meds instead of slapping them upside the head and telling them to shape up.

don't even get me started on pain meds. you don't even want to know where that whole fiasco has gone.

Job security. they're doing anyone that catches their eye while hubby's are zonked out, or pretending to be. They run a muck and will try to snare you in to one of their "games". In the end you will either be blamed for their wives indiscretions OR your spouse will try stabbing you once she is 'informed" you were making passes at both of them.
Flip side is they hit you up for a 3 some which goes south after they show your wife the "video" they made, starring your unlucky ass.

I have a hard enough time with one, did that crap in college, ain't going back to those years again. I ain't even thinking about touch'n those other women...But if there are any single guys out there...

I agree that "bipolar" is a catch-all diagnosis and a lot of people are misdiagnosed. There's also a major difference between Bipolar I and Bipolar II.

Script writers will diagnose you with something to get you on the pad (script mills).

Living with a true bipolar would be a ride.

There has to be a reason for big pharma to market their pills.

We knew a girl that was supposed to be Bipolar and she was a weird one for sure and I would not allow her in our home. Then she got knocked up and all of a sudden she changed when the world of real life smacked her up side the head. She has a cute little boy and is being a good mother as far as I can tell. The father is acting out a little, I suppose because he is no longer the center of attention. He really needs to grow a little hair and be a dad.

Some of these people do this just to get attention. Some do it just to be an ass.

Reguarding the high number of individuals out there with this...there probably isn't more around than there ever were. There are just more out in public than there use to be...they used to lock them up. Now they are sicking them on society.

My soon to be ex-wife knew she had borderline personality disorder and depression but refused to take any kind of medication while married and took offense when I suggested it. When it came to counseling I'm fairly certain she was lying and avoiding major issues just to appear to me that she was trying to help herself.

Now that we are getting divorced NOW she wants to get meds to help herself. I laughed because once the divorce kicks in (Feb 1st) she won't have health insurance to pay for her meds or counseling.

Question for the OP. How are old are these people getting divorced? My wife was in her early 20's, clear narcissistic traits, very childish and feeling entitled like most people from her generation. Wondering if there is a generation corerellation

While I cannot speak to the age of those getting divorced who have issues, I have a hard time thinking all of these elementary kids on mood-altering drugs are going to just 'snap out of it' when they walk down the aisle at their wedding.
