Uber driver with CC in Chicago saves the Day.

Didn't see this in the posts. Just goes to show that CC works.

Authorities say no charges will be filed against an Uber driver who shot and wounded a gunman who opened fire on a crowd of people in Logan Square over the weekend.

The driver had a concealed-carry permit and acted in the defense of himself and others, Assistant State's Attorney Barry Quinn said in court Sunday.
A group of people had been walking in front of the driver around 11:50 p.m. Friday in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when Everardo Custodio, 22, began firing into the crowd, Quinn said.

The driver pulled out a handgun and fired six shots at Custodio, hitting him several times, according to court records. Responding officers found Custodio lying on the ground, bleeding, Quinn said. No other injuries were reported.

Custodio was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic hospital, where he was treated for gunshot wounds to the shin, thigh and lower back, authorities said.
Custodio, of the 2900 block of North Ridgeway Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon charges. He was denied bond during the Sunday court hearing.


The Uber driver, a 47-year-old resident of Little Italy, provided police with a valid concealed-carry permit and a firearm owner's identification card, Quinn said.

For what it's worth, Lyft, an Uber competitor, similarly bans all weapons from its vehicles.

I was recently considering driving for Uber just because but now that I see this stance I doubt it'll happen. Some cell phone app company that doesn't employ anyone other than marketing & coders thinks they can tell people what to do as it pertains to their constitutional rights? Idiots.

What do you guys think about what is happening in California right now, if you really care so much about what Uber is doing?

You're talking about employee/employer agreements. This is an entirely different set of ideas at play here. Would you want Facebook telling you that there's the possibility of additional charges if you arrange a meeting with Facebook or mention it & then have a firearm on you when something goes down? You can't simply say 'I don't use Facebook' because that's side stepping the issue and any app could be interchangeable for purpose of this discussion.

The Uber drives are just contractors, expect in California now, so I would liken it to like telling IT contractors not to carry guns.

At what point in the transaction will either the driver or the passenger be at an Suber facility?

Just so we're clear, I agree with you. This is akin to trying to enforce a dress code for contracted call center employees that work from home. I just feel we're wasting our time complaining about a policy that will have zero affect on any of us. I've never declared that I was carrying to a cab driver, nor do I have plans to.

We're in agreement then. My post was merely one small example of how this stupid attempt to set regulations well above their paygrade will affect their most important asset: people.

Why can't you? Did it come pre-installed from the carrier or something? If so, root it and delete away. I root all of my phones as soon as I get them so that I can delete all the bloat ware on them.
