Suppressor questions .. form 1 ?

With the possibility of the trust route being eliminated, I am interested in suppressor.

After some reading on this forum and others, it seems as though form 1 is the faster and cheaper way to get in the suppressor game. I thought I read that form 1 is efile and form 4 is not? Therefore faster?

Looking at putting can on a 15-22 and ar15. Would it be possible to build a form 1 suppressor to use on both?

Mostly been looking at sdtactical's stuff since i dont have access to machining equipment.

Would i do better saving up $ and get a form 4 suppressor?

I wouldn't let 41p stop you from doing a form 4...if it's in process, or already approved, I don't see them trying to go back and disapproving everything...even if 41p does go through, you should have your form 4 suppressor in hand by December.

It comes down to this...if you want to build one do a form 1. I'm not saying they aren't good, but manufacturers have put a lot of time and money into R&D for new baffle and material technologies that make them worth the money...if you don't have the equipment or care about the satisfaction of building your own, go the form 4 route.

it is not recommended to run .22 through a .223 can as most .223 or .30 cal cans aren't designed to be broken down and cleaned like a .22 can. And if you get a .22 can, don't go cheap and get an aluminum one...you can't dip them and they're a little more work to clean.

just get a .22 can like a spectre and a .30 cal can so you can shoot .223 and .308 through it. Even if you don't have a .308 gun, you might get one down the road so the versatility will be worth it.

Personally I know my limits when it comes to making things. I could probably do it, maybe a 75% chance I won't eff it up. Then the question is, would I be willing to bet on my work by attaching it to a gun?

ill just pay for another one or two and be happy with what I've got. A dozen stamps in one year is plenty.

I have 2 up and running with no issues, a 3rd in waiting land. AND sending off in the a.m a F4 / trust for a TBAC Ti Ultra-7 . If one isn't comfortable doing their own work (ONCE APPROVED) it's easier to spend the extra $$$. Yes it's more than a BYO unit, but one cannot put a price on piece of mind.

So by the looks of things, you "need" at least 3 cans to start out. .22 .30 .45

That'll get expensive quick. I mostly want one because "they" dont want me to have it. Haven't shot suppressed yet, but it looks like a hoot.

I was in the same boat you are. I wanted a "do it all can" but realized its best to have dedicated cans for different calibers. Form 1 suppressors are simple and they are plenty write ups on how to do them. I ended up with a SilencerCo Omega for 30 cal, Spectre II for .22, and a form 1 for 9mm. Commercial .22 cans are so cheap they are almost not worth a form 1 in my opinion.

Pay now or, potentially never get to play...the NFA game isn't cheap but well worth it in my opinion. If you want to go cheap, then NFA isn't for you...get a cheap .22 can and you'll hate cleaning it, get a 9mm can because it's cheaper and you might regret not getting it in .45...

But yes, those 3 cans and you'll be able to suppress just about anything out there. The only downside is before you consider buying a new gun, you'll make sure you can get a threaded barrel first!

Rolling my own has been a lot of fun so far. And I'm certainly on my way to my one can for every gun goal. Shooting unsuppressed is so uncivilized!

I bought 2 commercial cans to start just because I didn't want to mess with building one. After researching form 1's, they seem pretty simple. I still plan on getting at least 1 or 2 more commercial cans and then start playing with a form 1 can. I want to cover all my bases with at least one commercial can and then do the form 1 as a secondary can to slap on my secondary rifles, if that makes sense.

Just being polite is all. I also put my pink up when I drink tea!

Never heard a peep about my shooting from the neighbors, although they are about a half mile away. Have been getting good eggs from them, haven't established our chicken coops yet.

Back to OP. In my opinion, if you've got marginal skills, form 1s are pretty fun and it would be the way to go if you want to get into a lot of suppressors (one per gun) for an economy price. But if you are only looking to get a few and switch between hosts, or you're a little unsure of your abilities, then definitely look into getting the big 3 (one good 22 can, a pistol can and a centerfire rifle can) After that its just a matter of getting all the threaded barrels and adapters needed to switch cans between hosts.

Only the new NFA folks believe that. Who has more than 1 bbl threaded, that doesn't have a can for it? My mistake WAS having threaded bbls, before i started collecting suppressors. The next Mistake, having the spouse shoot a few suppressed guns.

MSRP is $11-1295. The average i've seen them listed on line for was low $1K . That does include a 5/8 - 24 TBA muzzle brake. suggested list $125 [ish]

Gonna buy a 22lr suppressor (as soon as i get the trust done) Based on the recommendation of vitesse and southpaw I'm looking at the swr spectre ii. $359 at firing line. Good price?

They will ship to the dealer of their choice based on your location and then you pick it up, no add fees at pick up.

I does take a little longer than finding local stock because it has to transfer to local dealer and then your wait starts.
It was worth the wait because now I have a AAC credit for $200 worth of T-shirts. [emoji35]

90 days ~ average. That gives you a 7 month again ~ overall wait time.
Go in to MGT with some cash in your hand. Tell them you'd like to buy one now. IF they be willing to deal with you on price. If not how about making that price with tax included. Worst case they say no. There isn't one gun store i've been to ready to buy they haven't done something price wise.

I bought my Omega from Silencershop and it was an easy process. No different then buying a regular firearm just a tad more paper work. My dealer has my can and I'm just waiting for it to be approved.

Thanks for the information. I would rather support local shops, if they can get in the ballpark price wise. If the cost difference is a Tax stamp then it's probably worth ordering online.
