Reporters train themselves to ignore everything outside the camera's view. Think of it as "active" condition white. Camera operators, same thing. It's all about the story and nothing else while the camera is on, ESPECIALLY for a live broadcast.Quote:

People in lots of professions do stupid things because that's "how it's done". Maybe it's time to learn a different method. Look...I'm not saying the victims are at fault by any stretch. Just that paying attention to your surroundings is critical to personal safety.

I know you're not saying that the victims are at fault. Fact is, reporters are expected to look steadily into the camera and talk, not be looking around maintaining situational awareness on live TV. They wouldn't last very long as reporters if they did. This isn't a case of "how it done", it's worse, it's a case of "This is what is expected of you as a reporter". Ignoring your surroundings while reporting is required of a "good" reporter.Quote:
