Saw the comericial from Walmart (not big on them), but thought it was to show support to vets. I'm going to participate and change a light to green. Anyone else think this is a nice gesture for our veterans?

Is this it? First I've heard of it, is this a new thing? I'm curious what some of our veterans think of this vs. hanging a flag or something similar. I like the sentiment, just I'm not sure how many people would know what it meant.

The last time I put out green lights, some dingleberry stole them. However, I'll do it again for this.
That's it, I'm not sure on the rules of hanging a flag due to my hoa. So I'm going to do this cause I do appreciate all that have and still serve! That's not cool that someone stole your lights, hope that doesn't happen again.
Thanks for posting.
I would, but the assclowns that built my house put in light fixtures that use the GU24 base outside. [Censor]
Oh well. Replacing the stupid front porch lights was #4 on my house projects list, so I'll just bump it up to #2. #1 is getting done this weekend (Painting 2 walls in the living room).
GREEN LIGHT GO GO GO!
GEDIT: I'm also unclear as to what the green light represents, unless of course it's a reference to throwing yourself out of a "perfectly good" airplane,
I think it's a good idea. I hope word gets around.

THE MEANING OF GREEN
Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. “Greenlight” is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and “greenlight” them forward as valued members of our communities.
Thanks Bailey for the info!
I think that hanging a flag for us is more supportive than a green light. Vets appreciate residents who show patriotism and intelligent support for their country. If Wal mart wants to support Vets, they should give a military / veteran discount, not start some BS marketing scheme and line their shelves with green light bulbs for sale.
I will be hanging my mission flag out front with the spotlight on it to keep it lit at night, not putting out a green light bulb.
Wife and I were watching that commercial, she thinks we should do it so we probably will. Honestly I'm kind of "meh" on the whole thing. I'm not crazy about gestures of "support" that don't actually do anything to help the people being "supported."
I also wonder about the premise of the gesture, i.e. that veterans feel like they need "support."
I don't, I did what I did because I wanted to and I always felt like the reward for honorable service was that I know I did honorable service. That's not to say I don't appreciate it when someone says "thank you for your service", I do appreciate it but I don't need it.
I never jumped out of "perfectly good airplanes" I jumped out of Air Force airplanes.[Coffee]

Martinjmpr, I know what you mean. I'll do it anyway but personally, I'd rather people show their support by actually taking an interest in the country and the direction it's heading, learn something about the Constitution we swore to protect, and preserve the American way of life we grew up with instead of adopting these nihilistic Europhile touchy-feely anti-Western anti-Judaeo-Christian practices that have become in vogue.
Imagine if we could take all the money spent on green light bulbs across the country over the next couple weeks and put it towards a good cause instead of Walmart cash registers....
Can't you get green bulbs from Amazon?
I would get the green light bulbs anyway for Christmas -- have to replace the ones that were stolen. Today's society is very superficial -- just be happy some of them thought for even 5 seconds about doing something.
Now if Walmart would put the profits from green bulb sales toward Veteran related organizations, hmmmmmm.
If you really want to help veterans, you can donate to the DAV. "Disabled American Veterans"

Jesus...some of you guys would bitch if you were hung with a new rope.
How is this any different than yellow ribbons? Or blue stars? It's just a simple gesture of support that's easy for anyone to do. And who knows? It might be very uplifting for someone, a vet, having a bad day and seeing several green lights on homes or other buildings. It's not supposed to be a life-changing epiphany for anyone. FFS...lighten up a little bit. (I crack myself up sometimes.)
When I was still a volunteer driver for the DAV, every once in a while one of my passengers would donate a few bucks to the DAV to help defray some of the fuel costs. This really impressed me!!
Thanks again Bailey I just put this up to be a little heads up of something nice to do not a life changing event or even something new or ground breaking! I wasn't asking people to do it I just wanted to know who else thought it was a nice GESTURE a way of saying thanks since I don't know most of my neighbors around me, I give to wounded warrior and other charity's since some of you wanted to point out that we should help more than changing out a bulb.
So the neighbors on either side of me, and the two directly across from me all have green lights displayed. I'm not sure if it's because of the time of year (and since two of them also have a red light) but my street looks closer to Whoville than it does Patriot Rowe. For whatever it's worth.
