Comcast question

Thinking about switching from DTV to Comcast to take advantage of good savings for 2 years and the faster internet... Question is, when they install it in my house and hook up my two DVRs or whatever box they have on my main two TVs, can I expect to get cable TV in all the other rooms in my house that have a cable TV line coming out of the wall? I know this used to be the case about 5-10 years ago but you did not get the guide and all that jazz as that is contained in the box, but I am hoping to be able to watch local channels and maybe ESPN/TNT kind of stuff.

Nope, you now have to decrypt the signal, which means a $2 box for each rm minimum. This will only give you basic cable. Main rooms will get a nicer box with more channels.

If your internet is working well and you like the channels you get with DTV, I would stay where you are and avoid Comcast. As soon as a decent internet alternative is available in my neighborhood I'm dropping them. If you have any heart conditions or anger management issues be sure to never call Comcast support.

Comcast support is a joke. Everything is YOUR fault for 30 minutes, then they do something on their end that they don't tell you they're doing and wah-la, it works like it is supposed to. Bastards could have saved me 25 minutes by just saying they'd condition the line but nooooooooooooooo, we can't have that. No apologizes for the accusations either, I hung up immediately after it started working.

I only use Comcast Internet, it is the best ISP in my area.

Every tv needs a box to get cable. The little basic boxes are cheaper than the primary boxes.

Another option is using cable cards if you have Tivos

Is this just a Comcast thing? Because its not true in my case with Cox. I've never heard of requiring a box at each tv to get cable. I dont have a single box of any kind in my house and have 3 tvs that work just fine.

With comcast, there MAY be 1 or 2 channels you can get without a box.

All that is is a filter/trap on the line coming from the street. Or is Comcast doing something differently than they use to?

You will need a box for each tv to get cable.

I had TDS cable and it sucked, i just bought a couple Xbox 360's and use Hulu and Netflix for now.

We dropped Comcast YEARS ago, and have never looked back. Except to go over the savings, then, yeah, we looked back, and LAUGHED! All the way to the bank!

I have a Verizon jet pack for work, but I've never tried to stream on it. I think they aren't all that expensive. Anyone have experience trying to stream off the bigger ones? I suppose I should try it before I lose it in a month.

Correction, I've steamed on a single device only and it works fine. For only $30/month, we may end up switching to that.

Comcast sucks. Used to have cable then got rid of it. Now I only use Internet from them. Since I own the modem it is a nightmare to get it set up with them.

Don't get suckered in by low prices for two years.

We did that, got a year of low priced cable access with terrible SD picture quality. Their user interface for on demand content was infuriatingly slow and byzantine, and when I tried to cancel the cable service but retain Internet, they continued to bill me for cable for months even after I returned the cable box.

I finally got so upset with their terrible customer service that I disputed the charges through Capital One, which finally got the attention of someone at Comcast and they resolved the issue.

Since then we've only used Comcast for Internet service and steam everything else through a Roku 3.

Between Netflix and Amazon prime there's almost always something on for free, or we can rent movies via Amazon for a few bucks.

About the only use cases where a roku isn't the best option is for people who are sports fans or news junkies.

Comcast sucks, and I strongly recommend against getting sucked in by promises of low introductory pricing. They more than make up for it later.

Don't get sucked in their promo plan. I did, and their tv service sucks so bad it hurts.... i am tempted to pay the etf and get out of my contract to go back to dish....

I tried to go to Comcast. Install date was 2.5 weeks out. Tech guy got there an hour early, called from an out of state number and didn't leave a voicemail. We called Comcast and all they said was "We have to reschedule your install date and next available is 2.5 weeks out". We told them to just cancel it all which they did so without even trying to get us to change our minds. Called DirecTV and they got us hooked up the next day at a cheaper rate than Comcast was offering too.

Yeah, Comcast wants that $5 (might be higher now) for their modem to access their net, they don't like it when we try to save a few bucks, Comcast should include a modem with their $70/month internet service.

I've never had anything but good experiences with Century Link. Maybe they have better people down here in The Springs?

Thanks for all the replies, I think I will just call them later and see who gives the best deal. I like DirecTV but all of these providers jack their price up after your contract is over. I know Comcast's service is the worst but I have found that swtiching back and forth between them seems to be the bet way to always be in a contract and getting the discount. I am a sports and news kind of guy and the only way to get that stuff is through a provider which netflix and Hulu can't do.

The other problem with Netflix and Hulu is their stuff is all a year old or more. Take Walking Dead fore example, you can't get the current season until the next one starts.

You could go with a Roku and Sling TV, but it won't be local news.

Comcast is the worst thing I have ever spent $300 a month on. I didn't have a heart condition until I had to deal with them. If you ever need customer service, pack a lunch and put them on the speaker phone so you can do other things while you spend two or three hours on the phone. Make sure you have an interpreter on hand that speaks many different languages because you will never get to talk to the same country two calls in a row. Make sure if you do call them to get the employee number of everybody you deal with. Nothing that is promised will ever be followed through on so when you call back you'll need the employee number to report who promised you something or they don't believe you. And don't under any circumstances let them give you phone, internet, TV and security in a bundle. If you do that, nothing in your home will ever work all at the same time. I'm sitting here typing this watching a pixilated TV in my office with intermittent volume and the internet won't load about 50% of the time, the main TV is locked on one channel in the family room.

I think I would actually be in favor of government involvement to break up this useless piece of shit monopoly and get some real competition here for internet service.

I bought an over the air antenna for the rare times I want to get local news or live tv.

The last time I used it was during the San Bernardino terrorist attack.

Comcast is my best option for broadband. It works well and service interruptions have been minimal. Had Qwest DSL before that and it was horrible. I wish FIOS was an option...but it isn't available for us. With ViaTalk for VoIP and Dish for premium TV, I'm covered.

I hear all the time that Comcast want their customer service to be their best product, so you can rest assured that you will get great service. That said I am super in love with my Amazon Fire with Prime. More content for me and the kids than I could watch in a lifetime. Granted, I'm not a sports watcher.
