I have a Colorado w/Duramax. Does that count?
Shoot me a PM if you have specific questions.
I appreciate that some info would be best served via PM, but please feel free to share as much info here as you can.
I'm sure I'm not alone in following this.
Thanks guys.

Yeah, I saw a quad cab Canyon the other day that piqued my interest a bit.
OK...
I have about 8k on mine. I use it mostly for Home Depot duty and commuting. Mine gets just a hair under 30 MPG (29.6 right now over the past 900 miles) in combined commuting driving.
I haven't towed much with it yet...only a very light utility trailer. I did see a guy towing a 24' Airstream trailer with a 2.8L Colorado last Fri. He said it's a little underpowered going up some of the hills in the area but was still acceptable towing his trailer and gear that was just under 6k pounds. It's not gonna win any sprint races, that's for sure. It's got enough power to get around slower vehicles and makes it up the hills fine...but it ain't like driving a big truck with 800 or 900 ft/lbs of torque.
I don't find the driving position very comfortable. That's my big complaint. I have the 4-way power driver seat. I can't get it adjusted exactly where I'd like it. The 8-way seat is an option and I'd highly recommend that. Other than that, I have no complaints. It's very quiet and comfortable and it's roomy in the front and back. I have the crew cab/long bed option. I'm a full-size truck guy, without a doubt. But I do like this truck. It's much easier to get around town, park and so forth. I can really appreciate the smaller size for that.
I've had an intermittent noise coming from the front of mine though it hasn't happened for almost two weeks now. Read about it here:
https://www.ar-15.co/threads/167101-...Front-of-Truck
No idea from the service manager/techs at the dealership so far. If/when it happens again I'll try to get in and have them look at it again...the 3rd time.
ETA: We also have one of the first gen Cruze diesels that we love. Wife has her eye on a new Equinox with the second generation small diesel. We drove it and it was very nice. She'd be trading a Traverse which has been a fantastic car. Very "helpful" gentlemen are always eager to let her know she's about to put diesel fuel into her little car when she stops for gas. It's kinda funny. They will look at me funny when I fuel it but never say anything.
Holy hell, is this whole forum chevy altar boys? lol.
I was interested in the Chevy Canyon/GMC Canyon because they have smaller diesel engines which provide good fuel economy and moderate towing capability.
The Canyon/Colorado are the new 'small' trucks.... which are larger than my full-size 1994 GMC Sierra 1500.
If I wanted to tow earth-moving equipment, or yank a house off it's foundation, a full-size truck with a 6.6L+ diesel engine with 11mpg would be an option. It's not.
If there's a Ford product with comparable operating parameters (30mpg, 7700-lbs. towing), by all means post the information.
I'm going to the Denver auto show on April 7th, plan on hitting the GM area to see what's new this year and next.
My personal opinion, Ford has better styling than GM. My dad is a Ford guy, I tend to be Chevy/GMC.
I like the idea of the smaller Duramax, but I thought the 2.8L would be anemic for towing. It sounds like it's capable of 6K-lbs. at least. If it can hold speed,75mph, while towing 6K-lbs., that's good information.
Otterbatcat, I seriously do want your opinion. I hope my reply didn't come across as disrespectful. (BTW, that's a cool avatar!)
Bailey, you mentioned it's not really comfortable, may I ask your physical size? If that's too personal, I understand.
One of the issues I've had with the Japanese trucks in the past, my shoulders bumped up against the window.
My buddy has the Colorado/duramax option and it has been great for him. Tows plenty fine up the mountains with his 5.5k bumper pull trailer.
Awesome gas mileage.
I have the new 17 3500 with the recently upgraded duramax and it has crazy power and torque. I’ve pulled the max limit with it for landscape materials and it has been flawless. Just did three runs today getting 4 tons of roadbase each time and it doesn’t even act like anything is behind it. The mpg is much better than what you think duman. I get 18 all day long with nothing behind it. I get 13-14 towing just about anything.
I will agree I like the ford styling better, my buddy just bought a brand new king ranch crew long bed and the features on that thing are amazing. All the cameras, the integration with your phone etc. but it was also $15k more than my LTZ duramax and we have pretty much the same performance numbers.
What I would buy if they came out with one is in between the Colorado and the Silverado 2500/3500. Just give me a 1500 that can tow 12-14k with a Diesel engine and 25-30mpg and I’d buy that all day long. I don’t really need the 3500 but I sure do love it. They aren’t the trucks of old days that ride like a tractor and you have to shut it down at the drive through. It’s quiet, rides extremely nice.
We will be looking at the diesel equinox for my wife. I love diesels!
Not at all. I'm only 5'8"...not a big guy. It's not a matter of roominess or anything. The front edge of the seat is too high for my comfort and can't be adjusted down any further. The 8-way seat can be adjusted in an infinite number of directions so it works much better. I'm actually looking into whether or not I can retrofit that seat into my truck.
BTW...Chevy is coming out with a Silverado 1500 with a 3.0L diesel (I think that's the size) for the 2019 model year. Performance and mileage are rumored to be better than the Colorado/Canyon. Ford's F-150 diesel is out later this year.
They're pretty nice. We really enjoyed it on the test ride. It's only a 1.6L diesel but it performs very well and provides 30+ MPG in a small SUV. Pretty hard to beat. I may never own a gas vehicle again...unless it's a new Corvette or something. I may nee a raise before that happens, though.
is there a DEF delete available?
A quick search shows there are plenty of DPF deletes out there. But I wouldn't even think of that until it's no longer under warranty. The regen on these little diesels must be very transparent. I've never seen the message that's supposed to be displayed and reading various forums nor have many other owners. Some guys are saying if the majority of your driving is highway you'll never see it. I've never noticed a change in the motor, smell, anything. Not like the big Duramax...regen was very noticeable.
My brother has the CO down in Florida. Didn't opt for the diesel but it is a nice truck. Didn't think much of the back seat on the crew cab. Just not that comfortable for extended trips if you are over 5' 10".
It is good to hear they are coming out with diesels for the 1/2 ton trucks. I would see them overseas in small utility trucks and passenger vehicles and always wondered why we didn't have them in the US. When I bought my GMC 1500 four years ago, Dodge had just introduced their 1/2 ton pickup with the diesel option. A diesel 1500 or F150 would get my attention.
F-150 is out for 2018 model year, Chevy 1500 out next model year. I'm looking forward to seeing them. Ford has released their numbers and of course the Ram has been out for a while. Chevy hasn't released numbers yet but they say it will outperform the F-150:
Quote:
Vitals: 2018 Ram EcoDiesel vs. 2018 Ford F-150
Truck: 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 2018 Ford F-150 Diesel
Engine: 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel 3.0L V-6 PowerStroke
Power @ RPM: 240 @ 3600 250 @ 3250
Torque @ RPM 420 @ 2000 440 @ 1750
Fuel Economy (CITY / HWY): 21 / 29 TBD / 30
We should know more about the 2019 Silverado diesel and the new Duramax I-6 engine over the next several weeks.
I can’t help but not like the Canyon/Colorado platform. In my mind it’s basically the updated S-10 platform which I always thought were kind of crappy little trucks.
While I likely wouldn’t transition back to a smaller truck, if Toyota ever decides to put a small diesel in their little Tacoma I would definitely entertain a test drive at least.
It's definitely not an updated S-10. And most head to head reviews I've seen place it ahead of the Tacoma in pretty much every category. But, thats why they make different trucks...everyone has differing likes and dislikes.

THESE! This is exactly what I'm looking for. Now, can I get it for under $50k ?!? Yeah, I know, I'm a dreamer.......
It's interesting GM is going inline-6, Ford, Dodge are going v-6.
I wonder if there's an performance advantage of one configuration vs. the other.
You'll be able to get one for well under $50k. I bought a new, 2014 2500HD crew cab with Duramax, LS package (basically a work truck with power windows, mirrors and a few other niceties and rubber floor cover) for just a shade over $36k. It stickered at $49k-ish. You have to catch all the rebates and discounts just right. I got over $5k off alone with a military discount (occasionally they offer it to all active members and vets). Then there's loyalty discounts, USAA discounts, Costco discounts...all kinds of damn discounts. Plus rebates and other cash back offers. Also look for something that's been on the lot a while...course that'll be hard with a 2019 1500 diesel.
Most people seem happy with their EcoDiesels on the facebook groups. Few stories of serious mechanical issues, but many more enjoying them than not.
Other than Emissions issues (DEF), mine has been great and fun to drive in the wife's Grand Cherokee. MPG has fallen off this winter with the heavier tires I put on it. Mostly city is 19mpg. (with my foot in it a lot!) Summer trip with the family we were right at 28mpg with four people and some luggage.
I like the Colorado and the small duramax, It would be a great replacement for my Honda car someday. I'm waiting to see what Chevy has in the half ton coming out soon.
I know you're looking at the baby duramax, but when I ask users on here about a full size truck, they pointed me towards a Nissan Titan. It's more like a 5/8ths truck.... big interior, but not quite a massive hauler. After reason and doing some digging, I considered a 2017, almost fully loaded, they go for about $40,000. But just like all new designs, it will have its bugs and quirks, so get the warranty.
hope that helps
Based on this topic i started looking at the Diesel Canyon & Colorado trucks. Personally i'm not about to pay more for a new truck, either mid or full size than my house cost. Now that that's out of the way. 1 yr old / used under 50K miles seem to be running in the $15-21K range, with remaining warranty available.
I own a Colorado with the duramax. It is great. I tow my sxs with it, don't notice it at all. Runs great and looks good also. I kept my F250 for the camper, so the difference is noticeable between the 2. For around town, it's great.
And I would still like a rust free late 1970's F150/F100 with a 4BT engine and a NV4500 transmission. [Flower]
I have a 2018 Canyon and a 2014 Tacoma both are the 4 door 4x4. I like both trucks if toyota would ever add a diesel to the line up I might get another toyota because I think the canyon is better around town and I average 28 MPG and the taco gets about 18. I tow a travel trailer to south park with the taco and it gets about 9 mpg. I haven't towed with the canyon yet but it does have the tow package so it is a matter of time and I will let you know how it does.

That's good stuff. Looking forward to hearing about your towing mileage.
If they came out with the AEV Colorado as an option I’d consider getting one.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dde624fa1a.jpg

If you buy a Colorado, PUT A GIANT TRANSMISSION COOLER ON IT. Always a weak weak point for GM transmissions. I also added a deep ventilated transmission fluid pan. Pan comes with a drain plug. Don't buy the owners manual saying the fluid is good @ 100,000 change interval. Change it at 30,000...
PS I have a Colorado.
