yeah i have been watching this too. crazy stuff. i wonder if this is a .mil attack, a few guys going awal, terrorist attacks or what.
hopefully more news comes and they catch everyone involved...dead or alive.
Okay 2 shooters in custody now. Unverified reports of shots fired at a soldier's residence.
The report I heard on NPR this morning was too early to be this one, so it was a different story where 7 people were also killed/injured.

Okay, 12 dead, 31 injured. Shooter was shot and killed. 2 others have been arrested on suspicion with involvement. I'm getting this info from the news conference directly from Ft Hood. Terrible. Confirmed that it was a US Soldier.
yep just read that as well. soldier did the shooting. using handguns. possibly 2 other shooters.

I just got home and found out about this not 10 minutes ago.
Gunman was Maj. Malik Nadal Hasa.

I was surprised to hear the name (that's a different issue) but I'm very interested to hear details on this as they are released.

A Muslim shooter and the attacks were carried out precisely rather than randomly or chaotically in an obvious premeditated attack according to witnesses.
Can't offend Muslims by calling it a terror attack, though.
My daughter in law is a nurse in one of the hospitals at Ft Hood. She says it's very hectic and at least 6 shooting victims have been brought to her floor.
I guess it was right before a graduation was about to start. Bailey, can you get us more info? I'm anxious to hear if this was some kind of sleeper cell bs.
From what I'm hearing the shooter shot the victims up close and execution style. It wasn't like a random, psycho shooting. I've heard it described as obviously well-planned.
DIL says some victims she's had contact with are saying the same. Shooter made statements that he didn't want to be deployed.
That's really all I know other than what the news is reporting.
Maj Malik Nidal Hasan, 39 yoa, is the deceased shooter.
I've also heard conflicting reports that the two soldiers who were in custody have been released. I've also heard it's believed another suspect is at large but that's not confirmed.
Lt Gen Cone is having a news conference at 1630...right now.

I'm a little upset that the clip they keep playing of Obama sounds like he is mad that his afternoon nap was interrupted or something, but it is more likely that he is just trying to figure out what is going on, and was choosing his words carefully since he keeps sounding stupid when he comments on hot topic news issues.
I saw Obama's remarks. I think he was obviously disturbed but I thought his remarks were appropriate given how early they were made in the investigation.
Fox is now saying Hasan was a psychiatrist recently reassigned to Ft Hood from Walter Reed.
Its a sad day for TX. The word is Hasan was an Army psychiatrist.

Sorry...when he said the shooter was alive...not dead as has been reported all day. He's been in CID custody in the hospital since he was shot earlier today.
Wife called me while I was on campus to tell me this was going on. I called it as a single shooter right off the bat. The other's they detained (not arrested) were probably to ensure it was a single shooter incident. I highly doubt this is terrorist related. More than likely, his religious beliefs played into his psychological break, but as to how only the investigation can uncover.
Blaming the Islam faith for this incident is way premature. I suspect when it's all said and done, the shooter's religion (although a psychological factor for the shooter) is incidental to his actions. I saw something similar while in OSI when Buttons flew off in an A-10 with live munitions on it. He was disturbed, conflicted, and never overtly related his turmoil to anyone. He never asked for help. It boiled over into him flying the A-10 into the side of a mountain up in Eagle County.
We also saw this back in June 1994 at Fairchild AFB, WA when Dean Mellburg took an MAK-90 into the Psychologist wing of the hospital there and shot up the place. Dean was a severly disgruntled young man who was being discharged for psychological problems.
There have been a few incidents of Soldiers attacking other soldiers because of their Islamic beliefs, but this one doesn't fit those incident's MOs.
That's what I see so far. I've been wrong before, and the investigation will root this out. I just think it's way too early to bring in the shooter's religious beliefs at this point as the motivator for the shootings. At this point, it's just something the media can sell.

2 things though different about this shooting then others. He didn't use an assault weapon, and he was military. Don't see how the libs can use this for their agenda. Can't call for a ban. Can't say we need to take guns out of the hands of people like him. Gonna takes guns away from the military?
Something has always struck me as weird. When I'm on FT Carson, generally the only people I see with guns are guards checking ID's at the gate and the occasionally MP. But when I'm on Pete Field, they have people walking around with loaded M16's. And a girl at one of the FT Carson shoppettes told me they have to check their guns at the armory. She was going to join me (us) on one of the club shoots, and said she'd have to get her guns from the Armory first.
I just read that Hasan used an FN FiveSeven 5.7mm caliber pistol in the shootings. A pretty unusual choice, I'd think. The Army is also saying he was carrying another pistol but didn't fire it.
I know what these pistols are and I'm vaguely familiar with the caliber. Does anyone know if it will penetrate a vest? I think it probably would out of one of the FN carbines, but I don't know about being fired from a handgun.

That is interesting. I know that there is a lot of speculation online about if the 5.7 will penetrate a soft vest. I think a lot of people think that it can. If he shot 38 people, doesn't that mean that he had at least four mags, and probably more assuming that every shot fired didn't hit someone. Crazy.
I think standard capacity for that gun is 20 rounds per magazine. I haven't heard exactly how many magazines he had or how many rounds he fired.
I've heard there may have been some friendly fire issues. His use of a 5.7 should make that part of the investigation a lot easier. At least from a technical standpoint. I doubt anything about it will really be easy.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A 5.7-millimeter pistol used in the Fort Hood shooting was purchased legally by suspect Nidal Hasan at a Texas gun shop, law enforcement officials said Friday.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case.
Records indicate Hasan bought the FN 5.7 at store called "Guns Galore" in Killeen, Texas, well before the attack that left 13 people dead, one of the officials said. The pistol has been dubbed a "cop killer" by those who have tried to stop its use.
The most powerful type of ammunition for the gun is available only to law enforcement and military personnel. Gun control advocates call it a "cop killer" weapon because that ammo can pierce bulletproof vests, and its use by Mexican drug cartels worries police.
It is not clear what kind of ammunition was used in the Fort Hood attack. One official said the store records do not indicate Hasan purchased any ammo when he bought the gun.
My prediction: If you've ever wanted an FN 5.7, get it now.

This was a horrible and tragic loss of human life, don't get me wrong. It is, however, irrelevent how these people were killed. It doesn't matter what weapon the psycho used. Even though none of the victims were wearing body armour (why would they be?), I'd almost bet my left nut the liberal whiney-bitch gun grabbers will be laying prosrate in the street crying for a ban on the so called "cop killer" pistols.
I honestly had no interest in owning the FN 5.7 untill now. Knowing they'll try to ban it makes me want to get one now though...
I looked into them, but they are over priced IMO. Maybe it's just because I can't afford $950 for a handgun.

I'm surprised (and pleased) that it took this long for this to be brought up on this website. I've read the posts that he supposedly posted on the internet, and I don't think he's crazy for saying what he said. Right now the news keeps reporting that people who knew him claim that he was combative about the two current wars and often disagreed with people who supported the wars. I haven't heard anything that has really made me think that he is some fundamentalist, but he certainly sounds like he has a different set of beliefs than I do.
