If people would buy my ammo, their Garands would "ping" with happiness [Flower]
XJ’s ammo is good quality stuff, if you have a Garand you need his ammo! Pre loaded on clips too.
Covid-19 dies by the M1Rifle. I love my Garands every day and would buy more ammo but my limit is 27 cents per round for mil .30-06. But then, I still have a few Krounds. Call me old fashioned or call me a....
reloader. [39]
Oh, I’d sure like to find a large lot of .30/06, safe for the Garand at around .27 cents per round but not someone else’s reloads. I do still have a few hundred rounds of M2 Ball, LC69. Guess it is being saved for the upcoming “apocalypse” or the “Purge”. LOL. [ROFL2]
I should get my Winchester out of the safe and to the range.
Uncanny just how accurate these old “war horses” can be and with open sights at that. I have one of the later ones, an S.A. in the 6,000,000 batch. [blaster]
In the early 1970's competing in Service Rifle class, had good results with gi barrels. Add glass bedding the action, match bullets in our own loads and match sights these were X ring capable rifles.
Mine is an old AF National Match rifle in 308.
I don't reload, so all my M1A (.308) has seen is 7.62x51.
Just got a Winchester garand made 1946
Love the ole girl
Just picked up one to fill my Korean War era M1 Garand. Springfield action that dates to Apr 1943 with the date stamp of 2-52 behind the receiver, which was when Springfield ramped up for the Korean War. No idea if it ever made it over to the peninsula but good representative.

Thanks for that picture. I have been messing around with M1 Garands for many years and have never seen such a stamp on that portion of the receiver. Thanks again. [blaster]
Me either. Most of my collecting has revolved our WWII and Marine Corps M1s. When I started looking for a Korean War era Garand, I thought I would look for a rebuild with a WWII receiver and a barrel stamp from prior to or early in the Korean War (50-53).
Came across an article in American Rifleman on Post-World War II M1 Garand Rifles. It talks about the SA-52 mark, as well as the 4,200,000 serial number.
Marine24, I picked up a really late manufactured Garand, in the 6,000,000 serial number.
Nice. Springfield or H&R? 56 or 57 DoM?

Excellent article as are all by Bruce Canfield. It explains why your Korean era SA-52 marked rifle has a low WWII serial number. I wonder if it might have the 5 plugged holes on the left side of the receiver as were made for future production M1C rifles? I also wonder if such plugged holes would even be detectable with refinishing and new parkerizing?
My Korean era Garands are like new arsenal rebuilds, HRA and SA in the 5.4 and 5.9 million serial ranges. A WWII Winchester would be sweet to have but the Korean era Garands were the best made with more refined machining.
I'm not too familiar with the sniper variants of the M1 Garand (M1C and M1D). Have to rely on my friend, John Kelly, for that. I don't think mine falls in to the M1C receiver category based on serial number. Mine predates by over a year when the M1C was officially adopted in mid-1944. Based on a Bruce Canfield article, The M1C Garand Sniper Rifle, the M1Cs were in the 3.1 to 3.8 million range. I just looked at the left side and there is no evidence of five holes in the receiver.

Interesting, thanks.
Those two holes in stock were from installation of a rifle grenade sight.
Thanks. That adds to its character.
Yep, grenade sight

Very cool guys!
My latest addition is a SA, sn dates to September-October 1955, barrel date is October 1955 making the rifle one month younger than me! Gauges 2 and 2+, fantastic shooter. CMP service grade. I will strip it down and check and record the drawing numbers, see what may be original and replaced.
I love these rifles, still trying to rescue a Winchester from CA, ongoing project with a few moving parts before I get it.
Last M1 Garand that I got from the CMP also had the white painted numbers on one side of the butt stock close to the butt plate. I had a hell of a time trying to remove those painted numbers. Sure didn’t want to sand the stock so most of the painted area that is deep in the wood grain is just going to remain there and I can easily live with it. . [blaster]
Ok fellas
I’ve been looking at the Garands for a while now. I could have gotten one from CMP but I would like to see what it looks like before buying it. I thought there was one on here for sale but I couldn’t find it yes I did use the search.
I found this one on arms list I don’t know enough about them if this is a fair price or not. Or maybe you can point me in the direction of one

Thanks for your help
That’s the one I saw then it total disappeared. By chance was that you the got it?
Dam it missed it by that much.
I’m hoping one of you guys can take a look at the arms list post to give me some directions
Way over priced for a CMP service grade. My experience with the CMP has been great, everything I purchased was better than described.
If you want a M1 rifle, buy from the CMP. Join the Garand Collector's Association (GCA), your CCW permit will qualify as the marksmanship requirement.
Don’t pay Armslist prices, support the CMP. You will get a solid shootable M1 Garand that you will enjoy for years.
Agree. I've been after very specific M1 Garands and frequent Rock Island auctions and Proxibid. Going prices for Garands on Rock Island has been $1300 for mix master rebuilds and then add the buyer's premium on top of that.
I do belong to the GCA because if one came up I would be ready. There’s not that many of the higher grades coming down the pipe. I think I have found one In Colorado. I will let you guys know when because I will be asking a bunch of questions.
Thanks for the help
The CMP also has auctions on rarer M1 rifles. You should be able to find what you want there if you really want something rare and collectible.
