It's about time they recognized the need for more 7.62 weapons in that theater. I'll be interested to see what they decide on for a replacement for the M14. It may be an old design, but it's hard to argue with success.

I also am glad to see them adapt to the current need. M4 just doesnt reach out and smackem in the head at the distances they are seeing over there. And with the new camo. Good stuff since I might be there soon [M2]

very sweet rifles! There are just soo many sweet rifles and too little money in my account to have them all!

glad they are getting some good long range stuff, especially shooting in the desert.

The Army has been using 7.62x51mm SR-25's from Knights Armament for a long time now. The problem with them is the weight due to the integrally suppressed barrel and maintenance issues. The bolts are not holding up to the rigors of use in the mountains there, nor the extreme temp changes (70-80 deg daytime, teens at night).

I would love to have M1A, actually I would really like to have an M14....but just trying to be more practical. Very pricey! Plus fiance would would have my behind when spending a couple grand on a rifle right now instead of saving for our wedding...[Help]

You can build something close, its based off of the M1A/M14. That, some nice glass, and an EBR stock ($800 +/- this is for the stock only) and youre gtg.

Sage makes one for well under $1k and I believe they had a hand in the development of the chasis for the .mil

I was issued an M14 but eventually got my PSG to let me switch to an M4. The ones we had used really high scope mounts and we had to make our own cheekpads. It was terrible, especially since I was getting in an out of vehicles all the time too.

I was later attached to a navy EOD team and they had a sage M14 and it was nice. All my complaints had been addressed. I didnt see any in army use until the 101st replaced us and their SDM's had sages as well. This was in 2007, its good to see that somebody has been paying attention since then.

I wouldn't mind a sage M14 on my next tour in a-stan.

Only thing that puts me off about the SAGE stock is that they take the M14 from 9 lbs to 15. You've really gotta want to hump that thing around.

Yep, it makes quite a difference going from an AR to the Socom II, that thing feels like a pig.... but I fricken luv it!!!

Believe it or not, there were a few folks in the Army who were using their M14s in basic configuration; not even a scope. Some ol' soldiers still appreciate good steel!

The M-110 SASS replaced the SR-25. And as for the bolts not holding up, was due to lack of scheduled maintenance for rounds fired, we have the same problem on the M4's. I've personally had 3 bolts break on me, 2 in country and one in training. We just shoot too many rounds for Crane to keep up with the maintenance for headspacing and chamber wear. Not to mention poor quality parts making their way into the supply system due to low bid contracting and short supply.... LMT finally took over most of the parts supply contract and lots of issues have dissappeared. Crane does what they can with what they are given. KAC makes great guns, just to damn expensive to field rapidly.
