Why do they let them out then make them join a list? I get the point but IIRC prison is to rehabilitate criminals.
If they are out, aren't they "fixed"?
It just seems to me that if you can't control yourself near a school you should be making big rocks into little rocks, or Dead.
I say let them have the choice: either go on the list or have their junk cut off and a tattoo on their forehead that says they are a sex offender.
One issue I have is that if you get in trouble for taking a leak in public (even just on the side of the road) you could end up on that list. I don't know if that is true but I heard it has happened.

Our society hasn't made any meaningful effort to research what might actually work as far as rehabilitation goes, nor is it willing to spend $ to implement it.
My wife works with the county halfway house here. It's an institution that is at least nominally intended to do rehabilitation.
Still, it's a degrading place with almost no regard for human dignity. They deal out punishments as if the residents are grade school kids, and frequently don't take the time to figure out what actually happened before booting someone back to prison.
My wife figures they are lucky when 10% of the people are able to stay out, and that's not the kind of results I would boast about.
Personally, I feel that there should be some sort of grading system. Real rapists and child molesters; you gave up your right to breathe.
But it is a fact that many people who would have otherwise led productive lives have been destroyed by the sex offender label. The college student who was accused by a girl who didn't want to be thought a slut...afterwords. Pissing on a tree. These are but a couple of examples.
Boulder has been the most agressive city in the state going after such people, and I'm not sure that they are doing the right thing.

The list is for when a kid goes missing/someone in the neighborhood get raped, etc. They look up the list for likely suspects. It is for the exact reason you stated, because they know the prison system is a joke and that these people are still predators.
Need to clean up and clarify law, too many BS offenses can get you on the list.
Convicted child molesters and rapists need to be buried, IMO they can not be rehabbed(and should not be). There are studies that show as much, we as a society are to soft to enforce it.
Prisons as a place to rehabilitate criminals is amusing to me. Prisons are for punishment. Those who wish to rehabilitate will, those that don't will reoffend. Those who serve thier time and pay the debt to society should be released to live full lives. Those not deemed safe to be in society should not be let out and should be buried.

The serious predators should never go free. Years ago I listened to an interview with someone who had had been studying these people. He was a card carrying liberal and so was the interviewer. When he was asked what he would suggest, he tried for a bland response but finally said that the hard core types should never, ever go free. He even suggested that we find some island and just let them stay there forever. He felt that they were just wired wrong and even if they wanted to reform they'd be back doing bad stuff. There was a long silence after this since this was not what the interviewer was expecting. Perhaps Devil's Island has room?
I also agree that this list should be cleaned up so only dangerous types be on it. I had heard that about taking a wiz so when I'm out in the country and have to pull over I go as far away from the road as possible.

The recidivism rate for violent sex offenders is in the area of 96%. These bastards need the 5.56 brain hemmorage, plain and simple.
hmmm... Everytime I say a robber, rapist, murderer, etc needs a bullet in the head I get flamed... and not a single person on here is crying about teh sanctity of life?... maybe hte same people aren't reading this thread...
But all in all, I believe violent and repeat offenders should just be killed.

I haven't seen anything in this thread I don't agree with- truly violent & predator type offenders should be removed from public in a way that is just as humane as they deserve (how's that for wording it in a PC manner?)
but the system needs work, as there are lots of stupid ways to get on the same list... which can diminish the impact of "being on the list", unless one knows why you're on the list.

Sex offenders are not out on serious things like rape. It's usually fondling, public display, adults, kids, elderly, perpetual public urination, child porn etc. Serious ones are sent up for a period of time and then released and have to be monitored by parole/probation.
So far, they are not curable either, so the system is still trying to figure out what to do with them. Monitoring is the best thing available, not enough bed space for them all.
One time in a limo I got the girls to lean out the window and lure some dudes up close to talk to them. Once they drove in close, I pushed the girls out of the way and flashed my junk out the window of the limo driving down Speer Blvd. Those dudes STILL followed the limo all the way to the strip club and tried to get with the girls.Quote:
