got some UTG hand guards, and later found out that UTG is or was an airsoft company which brings me to the question. can you use airsoft parts on a real rifle? and will it still work at 1/3 the cost. saw alot on an airsoft website

I'll give it a try and report back (only handguards and sights) the worst that can happen is they melt
Ask yourself- is China allowed to import firearms, or firearms parts?
so, if you're prohibited from importing something specific, but NOT other things, how do you get them in? (1st law of politics- follow the money)
China imports Billions of dollars worth of toys each year... airsoft is toys...

There's no magic gun fairy that blesses ordinary metal, transforming it into gun parts.
Take a look at what you're buying. If you think it will hold up, and test it reasonably, then have confidence. This is something you should do with anointed "gun parts" anyway.
I run what I was sold as a genuine QD TD stubby grip. Years later, I find out it's an airsoft clone. The years of use I got out of it didn't spontaneously disappear from memory.

airsoft parts as a general rule can work on real guns no problem. but you have to be smart about what you are using and what you are using it for. will an airsoft drop in rail system work just the same as some other? of course. its metal and has rails. there isn't anything special about it. ive used "airsoft" or .22 rifle stocks on regular rifles with no problems whasoever. most stocks are plastic as it is. there is nothing magical about them. do you really think an ar15 retractable stock is any different than an airsoft one? theyre the exact same. fact is the functional part of guns can't be swapped out for airsoft parts because they don't cross over. im talking trigger groups, bcgs, and barrels. everything else is just furniture. some may hold up better than others, but that can be said about anything and about choosing between one company or another.
people who irrationally yell "airsoft parts on real guns! ZOMG!!!!!" don't know what theyre talking about and probably just don't want to hear that cheap parts can work in certain situations even though they dropped a boat load on their furniture.
just remember, airsoft companies have no reputation to uphold when it comes to real guns. no warranties. no backing up their products. no testing done on things like sights, scope mounts, etc. so you buy at your own risk. there are many things that will work just the same, and many that won't. you have to be selective and smart about what you are using it for.
ive had a sopmod clone on my .308 AR for a while now, about 300 rounds, zero problems. its beefier, more solid, and heavier than my vltor modstock. i can't see it failing with normal use.
by the way, when i was younger i was super into airsoft so ive looked at lots of parts, both high end and low end. i have friends who own their own shop and still play all the time.

Polymer's are like metal, they come in hundreds of grades with differing strengths and weaknesses.
But frankly, considering that the HK91 was built SPECIFICALLY as a "cheap gun" mean to be thrown away when the barrel wore out, has a sheet metal receiver like the AK and is not made with a plastic FCG housing - I can't see why it's worth thousands. It goes bang, sure, but a new barrel can run you as much as 700 bucks to have installed. That's enough for a brand new AR15!
Magpul, DPMS, Olympic Arms and many others make airsoft products too.

Yeah tell me about it... I was thinking only gun parts here, but some time ago I went to Murdoch´s to buy new boots - huge selection, but just THREE pairs with label "Made in USA" :( Luckily, one of those were just what I was looking for. It was even tougher job to find a new belt - had to call a company and ask if it really says on the belt "Proudly made in USA" or something else.
It is really sad to see, how many "high quality" (for example) optics and firearms manufacturers make their parts in China :(
I have found that in my life, it gets cheaper to buy something else than "made in China" stuff. If you can find a part in some of my guns that is made in China, I will be happy to eat it - just to make sure there is one less "made in China" gun part.
And I just do not wanna support anymore communist governments.
No, my phone is not made in China nor my autos electronics or electro-hydraulic units. I do not have a TV and my computer have most parts made in USA and in Japan. Some parts do not have "made in" label on them though...
If you wanna know why I became like this, buy me a beer and I will tell you stories about communists ;)

Kinda sad but true, most PCBs, hard drives etc. are made in China :( I know my monitor says "made in China" cause it was only I could find here in the states... It is driving me nuts cause it is 4th one (3 broken ones) within 1.5 years :(

i dunno-ive had some airsoft rails on my olympic arms ar for a while with no problems,i think they were utg's
i think grips and furniture would be ok,but i wouldnt realy trust sights and optics that were airsoft
bingo. also, if you are significantly concerned with look then its true airsoft rails and furniture will often have the finish wear off faster, but if you are so leet to have ot buy top end everything then that shouldn't bother you anyway since youll be abusing the equipment while on your weekend opsQuote:

some are very well made. some are complete garbage. the problem is that people who have never been into airsoft only know the POS they sell at places like dicks sporting goods and the like. people spend $500-1000 on a good airsoft rifle, and yes i agree its completely nuts but you better believe its actually pretty damn good quality. and its true that as far as furniture goes airsoft guns often get more use and abuse than some of us real gun folk give our rifles.Quote:
