Came across this.
Would be pretty cheap to add parts to a good crystal radio to your preps. Would be absolutely one of those things to get the young kids involved with and a foot in the door with a good prepping skill for them.
What is everyone's thoughts? Am I beating a dead horse? Or is this completely a dumb idea?
Huge amount of work, so it looked to me. Kids have too many other distractions to be interested in that much studying.
I'm sure it all works as intended in the reading I did of it.

I feel it's a great way for the kids to learn on all levels-most of all to see something they built actualy work.
They do have electronic project kits. I have bought a few, the components snap together with what looks like buttons. Good for the younger children so they don't hve to deal with ires and smaller parts.Quote:

New York didn't carry the kits,but they can sell you a cheesy cell phone contract.

The levels of signal you will be looking for wont even register on one of those devices unless the broadcast is on your block, or they have a commercial antenna broadcasting for them.
