Nope and it disgusts me how many times I see people in 711 using them to buy absolute junk food food.. then pull out $100 for a carton of smokes.. fucking ridiculous ..
It's a welfare debit card basically..
So every time you enter a place a business and see 'EBT accepted here'.. they're talking about food stamps.
They made them cards instead of stamps so that it wasn't embarrassing to use them.
I think they should be made from 8.5 X11 sheets of hot pink paper. Maybe if people felt a little embarrassed using them they'd work harder to get off of them.

Went to sonic down here and EBT is a Fucking payment option! I work at T-Mobile I had a customer cone in to pay her bill , it was past do and suspended. They all had smartphones. She pays part of it and said she would pay the rest when she gets her welfare check next week, and her daughter gets her check from the state. They leave and go and get into a very decent vehicle.
If we're going to buy this BS that government should have some sort of hand in paying for poor people's food then we need to do away with this EBT crap and open up a chain of Government Stores where poor people can go pick up their free food. Then it will be healthy and cost effective.
My wife and I are frugal, we tend to buy mostly the store brand versions of food and we buy pretty healthy food. Often we end up in line behind one of these welfare queens buying nothing but over priced, less healthy "Name Brand" foods, whipping out a huge wad of cash to pay for the few things EBT won't cover and then following them out to the parking lot where they invariably get into a car that cost 3 times what mine does (with aftermarket wheels that probably cost more than my car).
Too many people in the cart, not enough pushing ... eventually those of us pushing the cart are going to get fed up walk away (or worse, start shooting those in the cart).
What we really need to do is go back to the old way of doing things ... private charity to help the downtrodden. Once upon a time we had plenty of "mutual aid societies" and churches that fed the hungry, clothed the naked and sheltered the homeless. It was seen as charity and not something the poor were entitled to so the plus (and the real reason for charity) is that those that had connected with those that didn't so that the bonds that hold a society together were strengthened and those that didn't have were taught to be better and wanted to be better.

We need to go back to the old way, this way isn't working. I remember a time when I was taught that it's embarrassing to be on food stamps, now one of my cousins is on welfare and food stamps and she's proud of this... WTF? The base problem is a lack of consequences. No problem, theres multiple apps for that. Be a lazy slovenly bastard with bad genetics(that shrinking gene pool thing again) and end up with heart, liver, and kidney disease? No problem, the .gov has you covered.
But hey, dont you worry about it, I will keep working away and paying my taxes and being a decent (not nec good) citizen so the dregs of society can continue to watch reality tv on their big screens my tax dollars paid for, while their kids go to school and fuck off and learn nothing useful, that my tax dollars also paid for, and their babymamas can continue to talk on the cell phones I pay for.
Oh, and yeah, I have nice things, but my wife and I work our asses off to get them, and despite of everything we will continue to have nice things.
Then we'd have yet another government agency/department to fund with the equivalent of store clerks getting government scale and benefits, not to mention the overhead related to facilities, etc... Plus, when is the last time you can think of that the .gov has done something better/faster/cheaper that didn't run the risk of explosion. You'd end up with the Kroger equivalent of the TSA.Quote:

We really don't need government to do anything to "help" the downtrodden, the American people are the most generous and charitable in human history. Couple that with the fact that private charities are significantly more efficient with the money they get and you'll find that MORE people are helped when the government is cut out of the charity business.
Agreed, with the exception that many charities are not that efficient, with maybe 10% of the amounts given actually used for its intended purpose. Shriners for example give 100% of thier collections to their charities and are awesome.Quote:
