So I've got a RRA 20" varmint ar 15, and was wondering if it'd be worth it to have the barrel threaded for a brake or flash suppressor? I will be using this firearm for shoot pdoggies, coyotes and etc... Oh my. Anyways I haven't fire the weapon yet so I can't respond yet on recoil.

I shot a "ban era" rifle in DCM competition for several years. No muzzle device. No big deal.
Of course, if you're worried the p-dogs might see some sort of flash and return fire you might consider something on there. [Coffee]
Also, if you don't thread it soon and some sort of legislation is passed that prohibits threaded muzzles in the near future you might be wishing you did it.

A brake will make the rifle much more concussive, especially to those around you.
Muzzle flash is a concern if the prairie dogs are returning suppressive fire.
I would go with a closed bottom device either way you go if you are planning on shooting prone.

Not only is it .223 but isn't the 20" varmint a heavy barrel as well? No real reason to do it except that you want to.

Only reason to thread it is if you are going to screw a can on it. Other than that, drive it like you stole it.
