I have had an acquaintance or two that seemed derisively vegetarian; it makes for an uncomfortable meal when the smug attitude of superiority hovers over their plate like some bodhisattva.
I think the thing that swings me from "Sure, we just like to eat different things," to "Seriously? You are under the impression that I'm going to apologize for eating meat?" is the implication that the rabid vegetarians carry with them of the, "I'm right and you are wrong, and I demand to hear you say so."
