Arguing with Vegans

Generally, it's the recent converts that are rabid. Does not matter if it's religion/diet/Etc. I think you'll find that the life-long vegetarians don't give a rat's ass what you choose to eat, even if it's the rat's ass.

I've been fortunate enough to have friends that were not rabid vegetarians or vegans, but simply preferred to not eat meat.

I have had an acquaintance or two that seemed derisively vegetarian; it makes for an uncomfortable meal when the smug attitude of superiority hovers over their plate like some bodhisattva.

I think the thing that swings me from "Sure, we just like to eat different things," to "Seriously? You are under the impression that I'm going to apologize for eating meat?" is the implication that the rabid vegetarians carry with them of the, "I'm right and you are wrong, and I demand to hear you say so."

I know vegans who try to lecture me, but don't say I'm wrong... But I agree, I fucking despise those militant vegetarians/vegans that try to tell you how you are wrong for your dietary choice. There is nothing political about refusing to eat meat, it is simply what YOU choose to eat.

The part that pissed me off last night (on top of the rapist comment) was one of them adding a video of a guy putting down a horse by shooting it in the head. I don't know the details behind the video because I didn't watch it but I don't know what the hell that had to do with being vegan unless they think we're partial to horses that we've killed ourselves.

I was raised vegan and have yet to experience a glass of milk or eat an egg (I'm now 46). I don't care if the person next to me eats a 100% meat diet three meals a day and clubs it to death with a bat in public, that's their choice. I didn't choose my diet, it was engrained since birth so it's about as far from being a "religion" for me as you can get, it's merely how I eat.

Rather than being all twitchy and worried about vegans, as the majority of responses here denote, live happily and confidently in your dietary superiority and don't worry about what vegans think.

^This. I've been vegan for six-ish years now. Don't give a crap if others eat meat around me; it's MY choice, not theirs. After learning a little bit too much in Microbiology and Animal Sci classes, I'm just a bit too much of a germ freak. Plus, according to my doc I'm well on my way to breaking the long family history of heart disease.

Asshole vegans give regular vegans a bad name, just like idiot gun owners make all gun owners look like a bunch of yahoos.

Very true. Although I would hope that if the day came that I chose to eat rat's ass, my friends (vegetarian or not) might want to find out why....

Vegans and vegetarians are not the same.

Yeah, and gays and lesbians aren't the same either. I get it.

Ultimately, they are the same; it's just a zeal towards a superioristic ideological point of view that separates them. That and the whole "I won't eat THIS animal product, but eating THIS type is okay" thing (I mean, really?).

I hope you never get to see how a meat packing plant works.

Been there/done that and went out for steak afterwards. Until something higher up the food-chain comes along and wants to eat me, I'll enjoy eating meat and thrive on it's goodness.

As someone already said (I'm modifying slightly): If man wasn't supposed to eat animals, they wouldn't have been made of tastey meat!

Isn't arguing with vegans in the same category as trying to teach pigs to sing? As in, stop wasting your fucking time?
