Hard to believe he was a military officer. But I've seen a few real tools in the military, too, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

It seems to me that the military isn't a big fan of private firearm ownership. Try taking a gun on post sometime.

I don't think that has anything to do with the military. I thought that was a federal law.

Oh yea, I thought of this too but forgot to mention it in my earlier post. Its definitely a straw purchase if he plans to turn it over to someone else.

The military has additional rules, which vary between bases at the Commander's whim. When I was in, no-one under E5 was allowed to have a private firearm in on base housing, even a single-shot .22 rifle.
