So, let me try to understand, on the off chance that secret service is in Colorado, we created a law to give them powers? How often is the secret service here and has this every actually came up?

and if the president is in town, believe me the DPD or CSP will be there as well. if someone needs arresting I am sure it will be covered.
    I tend to agree..............

We have enough local county, city and state law enforcement. Giving more power to federal agents is asking for more overstepping. The worse part is secret service was listed as the subject matter. Outside of protecting Federal elected elite, and watching over the mint what do they need to be doing that the other law enforment is already doing.

Too many power plays. Federal goverment is already a 1 trillion dollar fat chick sucking the life blood from its citizens and in need of a serious lipo suction and low calorie diet. Stop feeding it more twinkies.

The Secret Service has an office in the DTC. Many Agents work out of there. They've had a Denver office for at least 20 years now.

Seems like more of "death by 1000 cuts". Of course, it sounds "reasonable" to give them this new power. Of course, it'll "be necessary [they'll manufacture something to prove their point]". Liberty is rarely just taken away, it's given away by the sheeple in return for a false sense of security. I don't like it...

Nope. Just clarifying your statement of the "off chance they are in Colorado". They have a large presence here and have had for a long time.

There are Mint police, Secret Service Agents, ICE Agents, DEA Agents, ATF Agents, HUD Agents, DOE Agents, IRS Agents, Federal Park Rangers and a number of other law enforcement associated with the IG units of all the federal agencies. You would be surprised at how many different types of federal law enforcement that are here in the Denver area.

Like you said earlier- anywhere a USSS protected individual would go (aside from the multitude of smaller, temporarily protected individuals, mostly dignitaries) be it the POTUS, VP, or SotH, there will be ample local LE presence and really the only crime secret service would happen to be there for would be an attempt on the life of a protected individual (P, VP, Speaker- all attempts are in violation of Federal law). No need whatsoever for more powers.

Of all the things to get upset about, this is right down there on the bottom of the list. The way jurisdiction works for arrest authority is enough to require a multiple page thread to explain for the various Fed agencies. Hell, for military Feds it's so confusing I've had to call two different attorneys before detaining someone before. Its a complete mess, and most Feds just call the local LE and stay out of it.

Bet most of you complaining about this would be seeing red and wanting to crap fire if some USSS agent stood by and watched your wife get assaulted, beat, mugged... because they didn't have any arrest authority. It's happened, and it's happened here in CO before. May have not been Secret Service specifically, but I've seen it happen with military feds a lot. No arrest authority, Posse Comititus (sp)... Just safer for the agent to stand by and watch short of life or limb threat.

Man, there is a lot of "don't know what the fuck I'm talking about in this thread."
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.
