Thumbs up Colorado Appleseed Dates Announced

Three weekends announced so far [flyer], with additional dates through the summer to be added as ranges confirm open weekends.

What is Appleseed? Appleseed is a project initiated by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association, a 501.c3 nonprofit, that describes the program this way:
Appleseed is a program that instructs Americans on the traditional rifle marksmanship skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, along with reconnecting today's Americans with the people and events of the Founding era. Participants are taught fundamental rifle marksmanship skills that are required to allow a Rifleman to be accurate out to 500 yards, with iron sights, standard rifle and surplus ammo. This is the traditional 'Rifleman's Quarter mile', which is an uniquely American Rifleman skill, that has been part of this nation from the very first days.
Want to learn more about Appleseed or what you need to bring? After you've looked at those two pages, get registered online for a shoot. Heck get a buddy to register with you, too.

Don't have a rifle yet? (unlikely considering present company here, but just in case...) On a tight budget? Take a look at a discussion on affordable Ruger 10/22 Liberty Training Rifles or Marlin 795 Liberty Training Rifles.

    Has anyone here done this?
I am thinking about taking my Son.
Do you have any feedback about the class you took?

I went to one last year and it was a blast. The history of the beginnings of the Revolutionary War was told extremely well and the rifle instruction was great, too. My shooting improved significantly - and Appleseed teaches to propertly shoot with a sling and iron sights... no bipod, no benchrest, just you and your rifle from standing, sitting, and prone.

Last year one gentleman brought his 9 year old son - who shot a Rifleman score by the end of the weekend. And another brought two of his daughters (11 and 13) - one scored Rifleman and the other was really darn close by the end of Sunday. Best part about kids is that under 21 shoots for free (likewise with women and active military)! Here's a link to last year's After Action Report.

I went with a couple buddies who had been shooting much longer than I had - one's still in the Reserves. All of us had a great time and came away learning something new. I highly recommend it.

Wife and I signed up for the one in May. Friends are going in April so we'll get the low down from them before we go. Looking forward to some longer range shooting.

    Appleseed Schedule Update

The August 30/31, 2009 shoot sold out in record time, so a second August Appleseed’s been opened on August 8/9, 2009. This Appleseed will be at Frontier Sportsman’s Club (in Fountain, CO). It’s only $70 (except women, under 21, and active military shoot FREE!) for 2 full days of instruction. Regardless of your skill level – from brand new novice to Rifleman – you’re guaranteed to learn something new.

I know a number of forum members made it to the sold out May shoot and we had a great time. Anyone who attended the last one want to chime in on your experience?

If you're interested in going to the next Appleseed, then head over and register online for the August 8/9 shoot - hurry though, before this Appleseed also sells out! While you’re at it, get a friend to register and come with you, too.
