    Absolutely
I was talking with FIL last night over a beer about what constitutes "preparedness," and it got me to thinking about the old cold war and even pre to that disaster preparedness scenarios that the governments (local etc.) had in place. Not just the hear the siren and go to your basement or local bomb shelter, but information about places for law abiding to meet up after the fact as well. What the hell ever happened to any of this?
I think there is a good bit of common ground amongst many of the "experienced advisors," who have served in one form or another in an area where there is either constant unrest or a SHTF scenario concerning the grouping of folks into helpless or the victim class, the lawless (looting, raping, pillaging etc.) and the potentially successful who band together to offer a collective value proposition measured with potential show of force to re-establish some sort of law or at least co-existence minimums.

That said, once again, what happened to community level drives to be prepared to assemble at a location? Sure, like with every SHTF scenario and decision there are logisitical security concerns for doing this, but take the EMP/Compton effect scenario and we suddenly find ourselves void of our usual methods for communication, a community level plan in place for a minimum of assembly seems like a damn stupid thing to have not maintained, or is it just me?

    Hi!
No, it's not just you. There's an odd dichotomy that I've been seeing- the perecption of the world to be getting much smaller with the advent of everything online; online communities seem to be replacing the community right outside of our doors. The real world doesn't seem to be 'reality' with a lot of our communities. That's what it seems to me, anyhow.
