    Default Packing through Utah

I will be flying to las vegas in a couple weeks and driving a budget rental truck back, I have never carried in utah, anyone have in experiences? Just curious how they treat out of state CCW's? I have a Nevada CCW so I am covered there. Do you or do you not inform them if you get pulled over? The only LE encounter I have had in Utah was about 10 years ago and I did not have a permit that utah recognized at the time. Luckily he did not see my M9 stored in my luggage. I was pulled over for the wife to take a picture and he made a Georgia u-turn and threw on the lights to get up behind me, he was very unpleasant. I told him we were returning from our honey moon, had all my papers and was complient and polite and he still searched my pickup without consent and was just down right rude. So I just want to get the skinny before I make the trip. Thanks.

If you have a Colorado CC permit you're OK. I picked up a Utah just to add a few more states in the fold like Nevada.

There is no requirement to inform an officer that you're carrying (a recent change in the law). However, it is "recommended" by Utah BCI (Bureau of Criminal Identification). As long as your permit is valid and you exercise proper judgment you shouldn't have any problems.

Be careful about "houses of worship"...most will be off-limits. Alcohol? OK to carry in selling/serving establishments and to drink (if you choose to do that while carrying)...you just can't be intoxicated and the limits are the same as operating a car. Private property is off-limits if posted or you're notified.

You might want to check out www.handgunlaw.us before your trip just to familiarize yourself with UT laws.
