Haha, they have to take the telescope apart in the summer to clean the optics (primary and secondary mirrors) as well as do preventative maintenance on various systems. Takes about 4 weeks in total to take it apart, and either clean the mirrors or ship them to AZ, then the wait for other work to be completed, then reassembling the entire thing.
Whats funny though, is the box of "random parts" that we ALWAYS end up with every year at the end of shutdown. Its countless nuts/bolts, and sometimes other more unique parts as well.
Feeling like this thread is feeling a little left out from all the activity the post whore thread has gotten today.

"when you're happy you enjoy the melody but, when you're broken you understand the lyrics".
Staying up writting a group project paper again, I wish those in my group actually worked on it, but who am I kidding.
Disclaimer: I can't spell.
Been there done that. But honestly, it's hard to coordinate a group to accomplish such a focused task.

The people lived in fear of reprisal from their leaders, children cried themselves to sleep, all hope was lost... and then there was a whale.

Oh whew, I was worried you were making a joke that I wasn't anything other than a whore!
That sucks, I do not miss group projects at all. There is always people who skate on by doing the bare minimum or hoping the other people in the group will take up all the slack.

Definitely dark where I am.
