I was just confronted by a cop on my CCW.

During my classes they recommended that you don't tell. Said that if it is an anti-gun cop the odds of you getting a ticket go way up and it could lead to other problems with the officer.

I was pulled over and had an officer state that they see in their system that I have my CCW. Wanted to know where the gun was and all. Didn't ask to see it and didn't seem overly concerned about it. Said to leave it where it was at and politely sent me on my way.

Your CCW does not show up in their records when they pull you over. That was the case years ago but that has since changed.

My last instructor (an ex LEO) said to show it because most cops will appreciate it and they will treat you better.. not sure I believe that...

I got dinged by a CSP bike cop on 470 by 285. 73 in a 65 and no seatbelt. I pulled over and into the dirt, so he had the entire shoulder and then some. IIRC, he came to the passenger side anyway. I gave ID, ccw, insurance, title. He had me get out, keep my hands where he could see them and walk over to him. Placed my hands behind my head and he held both my thumbs with one hand while disarming me with the other. Told me to go wait in my truck.

Came back with the seat belt ticket. "Here's your gun (slide locked back), mag, and Barney bullet" Don't gut it back together until you're gone. This was about 8 a.m. on a Monday morning.

Probably ex east or west coast LE now working here. LE in CA will ask you for your license, registration and insurance. The very next question is, "do you have any weapons or drugs in the vehicle?" Always answered no except one time; I had a .22 rifle and a .22 revolver in the trunk in cases and no ammo (shot it all earlier that day) and I told the officer yes. That turned into a three hour ordeal with me and a friend handcuffed and sitting on the shoulder of the road with two backup units responding including a Sargent with a K-9. Why? Because I told the initial LE that I would not allow a search of my car under any circumstances. I continued to stand on my rights and refused. Eventually I received a fix it ticket for excessive exhaust noise (glass packs) and was released. I really don't like CA and never want to go back. I love it here in CO and I will do my best to keep CO free.
