Lasik surgery follow up thread

This is for those who said they are interested in Lasik on my last Lasik thread.

I just had it down yesterday afternoon, now i can see better than what i used to with glasses on. It does take a bit for my eye to adjust to vision without lens, and it still feel like sand in my eyes. I will go in for a check up tomorrow to get the on paper result.

I had it done at Cutarelli Vision. Mine cost near 4k due to my server nearsightedness and a doctor with good reputation. I traded potentially a FN SCAR and probably an AR or AK the chance for a good eye sight.

The itching should go away withing a couple of days, artificial tears will help. Avoid wind and dust for several days. I assume yours was a bladeless procedure; mine was with a microkeratome in 2004, and I couldn't be happier.

I noticed haloing at night for about the first 5 or 6 months, but now my night vision is better than it ever was. Gonna need cheater readers in a few years though.

They gave me Halcyon to take after the surgery...I went home and slept for 10 straight hours

Just be glad that you did not get PRK. Look that up if you want to know real eye pain and agony.

Yeah I did. Is that only for AF or all military's requirement?

I got PRK because it is the only surgery that the military would accept at the time because it does not create a "pressure sensitive" area under the flap. I guess that the flap traps a small amount of fluid under it when it heals makes a weak region that could rupture under dramatic pressure change, like jumping out of a plane or high g-force maneuvers or if your dive mask were suddenly ripped off it could possibly re-open and disable you completely. They have since allowed Lasik and others for non-flight / diving or spec ops rates but I am still glad that I got PRK. Over time though it will get a little worse. The first six months after the surgery were amazing to me because it was like a new view of the world that glasses cannot replicate.
