Let me clarify: this is a survival thread.......most are worried about SHTF and end of the world scenarios but I was just checking to see if people prep against Mosquitos, insects or other pest bc it might be the little thing that throw a wrench in your survival plan.

I only had two bites and my son had a few too but my lady friend had 16 and a few weeks ago when we went she had 14. For some reason they are attracted to her and I would like to make our camping trips more enjoyable for her bc she has a great time and doesn't complain but I know it must be a pita for her

Quick question was she wearing anything that smelled nice or bright in color? I hear those dammed things are attracted to that and it migh be one of the reason.

"Jungle Juice" from REI unless I'm around fly line (DEET will melt fly line).

-and for those who travel, Larium/Mefloquine is not a sure-thing prevention for the ills that mosquitos can cause...(be sure to have air-evac insurance if going to malaria regions....you just might need that ride like I did).

Been through some areas with serious skeeter problems, Minnesota for 3 summers, a couple years in the Philippines, and done some back country stints in yellowstone where to be honest they will pick you up and pack you away. Best thing I have ever done is dress for them. Even in july backpacking and 90 degrees I wear long sleeves and a head net. Hands get bit a little but not bad. Deet for days in the summer will make you sick. Watched it too many times. Ill have to find the link to the plant but there is a purple flower that is sort of cone shaped that grows in the mtns that you crush up and rub on your skin will work better than any store bought repellent out there, what I use most of the time in the back country when I see it. Old time flyfisherman taught me that one.
