It looks like the ammo is available and cheap. And it looks more powerful than the regular 9mm luger. You could do worse.

The 9mm Largo is 9 x 23 in the metric. Winchester makes a 9 x 23 that is loaded a lot hotter that 9mm Largo. Winchester 9 x23 is like a 9mm magnum. Guns chambered for 9mm Largo shoudn't shoot the Winchester 9 x 23.
I have a Astra Model 1921 in 9mm Largo. It is a blowback, not locked breach, semiauto handgun. Kicks more than a regular 9mm. The recoil is more than a 9 prabellum because of both more power and being blowback. I kinda like it though. It fits my collection theme of wierd and cheap.
It's a Spanish round so there are other Spanish guns chambered in it.
It is also called 9mm Bergman Bayard and 9mm Long if I recall correctly.
