This is my Aztec Bowie knife. I had read that the pre-Columbus natives of Central and South America used wood for some of their knives and swords. I was working with some Purple Heart wood that comes from there and I came to see how it could actually work for cutting people and critters. It inspired me to make my own version of a wooden knife. The Purple Heart woods' rich red-purple color and almost metal like hardness seemed appropriate for the leading edge. I originally put a sharp cutting edge on it when I was making it. I dulled the edge after I gave myself a semi-nasty cut while working on it. If I was to do it over I think I would shorten the blade portion 2 or 3 inches. Over All Length is 19 1/2 inches, the blade is 15 inches long.
The other Bad Ass Blade is on my ATAS North American Arms revolver.
The Beretta civilian M9 is there for size reference.

I made this one a few months ago out of some O-1 steel and a hunk of walnut a buddy brought back from the farm in Kansas.
Anyone remember these? It's at least 50 years old.
