It's much cheaper for me to pay the penalty than to have insurance --- I know better with the high risk activities I participate in that I need insurance but a lot of self employed folks can't afford it.
One thing missing is that they need young men to sign up. Healthy people that will not use anything in their plan but be forced to pay into it to cover the fact that genders are charged the same and they can only charge seniors a certain amount more (3x I think?) than the 18-22 year olds. The penalty is paid into the IRS, so who knows if it will actually go back to Obamacare funds or some other slush fund.

Hence the reason the entire pyramid scheme is doomed to fail...
aren't you eligible to leech off your parents insurance until you are 26?

The entire scheme is built to obfuscate the real motivation behind it...
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ, we are the III%, CIP2, and some other catchphrase meant to aggravate progreSSives who are hell bent on taking rights away...

I want to say until your 27th birthday now, and you don't have to be single and in school anymore.

I did that when I went back to college, back then it stopped on your 26th birthday. Afterwards I could have gone on cobra and extended it out even further for probably less than obomacare.
