Sitting in DC and NOVA today the talk with everyone is about the governors race. Everyone that I talked to, that is Republican, voted for the Democrat. For most of them it was the first time they had ever voted "D" in their life. All of them cited Cucinelli's stance on women's rights and same sex relationships. Several of them agreed with Cucinelli's belief that abortion should be illegal - but could not agree with him that even birth control should be banned and that doctors that prescribe it should be tried for murder.

Cucinelli was WAAAAYYY off base with a majority of voters and did nothing but pander to the hard core uber extreme right (read heavily religious).

I hope that the Republican party learns from this and stops pushing the hard core religious zealots. The best thing the Republicans could do would be to knock off all the extremist rhetoric and start listening to the voting public.

Regarding Christie, who supports Amnesty of ILLEGALS. If you look at the number of "hispanics" who voted Christie / R received an uptick of 1%. To me being in favor of amnesty really doesn't put more voters on the R side. it just confirms those who want entitlements will always vote D.

Not sure why everyone always assumes that they steal only from the right. I'm sure every time a Rep wins some Dem is sitting at home bitching how the 3rd party guy stole votes from his side of the vote.

Here's an article that speaks of an exit poll of people that voted Sarvis.. If they had not voted Sarvis they would have voted McAuliffe at a 2 to 1 margin so Cucinelli still would have lost.

    http://reason.com/blog/2013/11/06/do...cuccinelli-los

But to blame a major-party loss on third-party candidates is fundamentally mistaken. First off, it ignores data that the Libertarian pulled more votes from the Democratic candidate than he did from the Republican one—an exit poll of Sarvis voters showed that they would have voted for McAuliffe by a two-to-one margin over Cucinelli. Second, and far more important, it presumes that all potential votes somehow really “belong” to either Democrats or Republicans. That’s simply wrong and it does a real disservice to American politics.

Also in this race, Dem turnout was up 4% while Rep voter turnout was down 5%.
I wasn't explaining away the loss, I was explaining the anger. There are certainly assumptions that the Sarvis voters would have gone with Ken C which the polls in your links seem to disprove, but there is no way to really know that for sure. What we do know is that Sarvis was getting a lot of campaign funding from a Dem money bundler and, looking at Sarvis's own statements. he wasn't very Libertarian in his nanny gov't stances.

When did Ken C say that? All that I find is that it is essentially an assertion taken from someone's editorial rant in the NYT being widely distributed as truth by the Dem machine.

It was all over all the TV and radio advertisements here... Couldn't go a commercial break on any local channel without hearing it.

And hence why the Republicans went D....even though what's in bold is not true:

basically, the democratic machine pushed a perception that at best had only a miniscule slice of truth to it and the RINO establishment Rs in VA allowed it because they hated the Tea Party faction and would rather have an ubber liberal than an extreme (but not extremist) tea party running the show.
Ken C didn't loose because of the L vote. He lost because the Rs bought the bullshit hook line and sinker.

personally, gay rights and abortion are a third rail and basically if an R is going to win in a purple state, they pretty much need to say "f-it, let God sort out their actions," and get to work fixing the economy and our overzealous/overreaching Federal government.

Did anyone bother to substantiate the claim in NoVA? Politifact has this, but it's only 10 days or so old - http://www.politifact.com/virginia/s...ts-ban-all-co/

I normally vote Libertarian, but the 2014 and 2016 elections are the most important elections ever©

Make sure to vote for whatever con artists the republicans put in front of you. You'll still get conned, but at least they'll be telling you what you want to hear while they're conning you. And don't forget, the 2018 election will be the most important election ever, so vote Republican!

Good plan, help elect McAuliffe - after all, Democrats made sure to fund the Libertarian candidate that wanted to expand Medicaid.
